Had an error that proceeded a go-ahead homer on Sunday, too. Cant be the worst hitter in the league and not be anything but the best defender at your position (which isn’t even a priority position at that).

@DayGameDouglas @Nati_Logan5 Based on his reported effort? I think it's a fair assumption. 🤷♂️. He wasn't performing for an extended period of time. The effort wasn't there according to those in the know. He needed a reset.

Looking back on it, it's kinda insane that Marte was given 29 ABs to prove himself this season. 42 ABs into his AAA stint and he's hitting .452. Obviously not expected to be near that in the majors, but he is not a .138 hitter. Gotta give him the same opportunity as Benson.

I think looking at it that way alone is missing context. You get the lack of effort and a sluggish start after he cratered the last month of the season in 2025. We're talking about a guy who posted an ops barely over .500 throughout September. It was an extended period of performance paired with poor effort that got him here. It needed to happen. Really feels like he felt he "arrived" after a strong July and August last season.

@DayGameDouglas Yeah, we've seen what he'll produce over a full season, and I think his ceiling is way higher. He's always been streaky too, need to give him time. If it's still this bad after 100-200 ABs...then fine

There's no way he quote tweeted that like some gotcha. Castillo has been very good for Seattle overall. Seattle most definitely has been on the winning side of the trade in regards to return on it.
