Hausa architecture in northern Nigeria 🇳🇬 :
Thick walls of sun-dried earth (Tubali) slow heat transfer, small openings which reduce glare, dust, and hot winds.
while compact and defensive from the outside, inside they're unexpectedly cathedral-like - high vaulted ceilings and arches achieved without the use of timber, to create cooler microclimates.
This sophisticated intelligence was almost lost through colonialism imported concrete and rigid ideas of progress, dismissing hausa architecture as primitive and devaluing indigenous crafts.
