Labour’s net loss was 379 seats at the May 7th Council elections.

90% of England Councillors now elected (4462/5047) Labour won 895, lost 1274 (well under the 1500 Sky were forecasting "bad") Tories won 730, lost 527 LDs won 812 - very good! Greens won 454 (a long way from the heights promised by Zack) Reform won 1367, miles below expected.

Labour won more seats than the Tories in England. Labour won more seats than the Tories in Scotland. Labour won more seats than the Tories in Wales. Labour had a bad night - the Tories have become irrelevant. Will the media be asking if Badenoch should go?

It would be refreshing if journalists started using actual facts instead of just chasing headlines. I know the media loves to focus on who lost what, but let us be honest for a moment. If I were a PM facing a media that seems determined to bury me, these figures would look rather good, wouldn't they? The reality is clear: Labour still holds a commanding lead with 5,063 seats, over 1,300 more than the nearest rival. More importantly, the moment Keir Starmer pledged to stay, the pound and UK bonds grew stronger. The markets have spoken, and they chose stability over the chaos of another leadership vacuum. Perhaps it is time the narratives started matching the data.
