Utah is famously known as the last PAC-12 school to jump ship to the Big 12 back in 2023.

I just received contract details for Utah State's new head coach Ben Jacobson. His annual salary will start at $1.2 million, increasing by $50k until it reaches $1.4 million by the final year of his contract.
The buyout is 75% of the cumulative remaining salary with each year's term ending on March 31.

@greggers1868 @jwalker_sports Jacobson has been a coach for a while making a nice salary in small town Iowa, I don’t think he much cares about the money and would rather have more funds available for Roster/Assistants.

I think Ben Jacobson intended to be a UNI lifer, but after winning that MVC tournament it gave him life again and he decided it was time to go demon mode in college basketball and go on a tourney run, so he chose USU.

@Bigmacmurph All the best to Jake at USU. Worth pointing out for historical accuracy, UNI has 4 NCAA tourney wins since 2010 and I believe Utah State has 2. 3 since 1971.

I respect Ben Jacobson for not pointing out the obvious difference in available resources between USU and UNI. Even when the question begged for itHe did not say 1 thing to discredit Northern Iowa. Speaks a lot about his character and the difficulty of the decision to leave.

Rather than spending the presser going over his impressive resume, bringing up past tournament successes, or publicly validating his decision by small timing his former school, Jacobson spent his time showing his character and what kind of person he is. I’m sold.

@freezehtx_24 You could tell his main reasoning behind a lot of things was due to the lack of resources available at UNI but he avoided saying anything bad about them. Made for some awkward “Let’s get it” answers, but still very respectable.
