I've been getting hit up by people asking about Ohtani digital collectibles. Ohtani digital collectibles right now = 3 lanes, 3 tradeoffs: • Panini → best marketplace, strong liquidity, big sales… but no MLB license (no jersey), MLBPA instead. Given that Candy is down and Topps is very hard to navigate, this def feels like the main current option. • Topps → fully licensed + legit IP… but terrible discoverability + tech friction. You can buy one if you earn a master's degree and get 4-5 Topps collectors to help you (that's what I had to do). • Candy → fully licensed, rare supply (Dodgers years, 1/1s, key moments)… but platform has been broken and not as well known IP. Now the wildcard: Tad Smith acquiring Candy. Former CEO of Sotheby's and Madison Square Garden. Knows sports, knows high end collectibles, knows best in class digital collectibles and crypto industry. My take: This isn’t about picking “right” vs “wrong” — it’s about choosing your risk/reward profile. I’m betting where: ✔ supply is scarce ✔ licensing matters long-term ✔ upside > current dysfunction Digital collectibles are early. When we are status flashing in the future in public to people who don't know about digital collectibles I want something with a jersey on it. You might prefer otherwise, and the beautiful thing about collecting is everyone gets to express their opinion with their dollars, and long term the market gets to decide. @derekcsnook Yes, it is a mess. Hopefully one day we get a dedicated sports NFT platform that will make them more available. There were 5 parallels in 2018. Common (241), Bronze (19), Silver (15), Gold (6) and Legendary (1). The ones you show are 2019 version with 532 total mints.

Yea I guess similar issue with discoverability to Topps. I'd love to be able to find them and figure out how many there are but I'm having an insanely difficult time. You're saying there's 282, is that across the 5 "shohei Ohtani"s below? I'm not into bobbleheads but I do love how early they are which is awesome.

@Eisenberg43 Makes it extra sad that you guys over at @NBATopShot even after 5 years, still haven't been able to capitalize on the huge advantage you have. You just keep finding new ways to break the trust of your own product.

Not a knock on any one grader — the entire physical grading model is built on subjectivity, and human error can jeopardize the hobby every time stories like this surface. TL;DR is 52 of 99 cards that were originally graded PSA 9 or below were revised upward after collector requested re-review. Digital collecting solves the core issues: no arbitrary grading and permanently mint condition. Digital sports collecting is inevitable for mainstream collectors.

@mbl267_NFT @CardAficionado In the hole they have gotten themselves in due to continuously breaking users trust hey can never afford to break this chain. Somehow they managed to do it on the second drop. They HAVE to make all their pricing mistakes on the low side! Concerning that they can't grasp this.

@mbl267_NFT @CardAficionado Clearly the right move, which makes me doubt they will actually do it. Pricing the packs like they did in the first place shows that they still have no clue what they are doing. Well priced packs->Happy customers->Positive word of mouth->Repeat, is the only way they will succeed.

So what do you do when you're expecting a quick sellout and now you've got a lot of product sitting? I'm curious how TopShot will handle this. Do they lean into the "card shop" model and just have premium product available? Do they try to move them with incentives or discounts?

They were called MLB Champions on Ethereum and go back to 2018 (extra cool as it was Ohtani RC year). Only 282 Ohtanis were made that year, real historic grails! Top MLBC sales:
