@gazrw@Stephen78857051 1983 Cradley team was better. Both reserves averaged over 7 a match.
Wiggy, Lance King, Erik, Phil, Big Al, Janno and Peter Ravn.
Cradley Heath team pic from 1980. Alan Grahame, Eric Gundersen, Dave Perks, John Hack, Phil Collins, Ila Teromaa & Bruce Penhall. That's some line up, they did the double over the Robins & I watched both meetings☹️
@Stephen78857051 But for a few hundredths of a point on the averages we could have had Bobby Schwartz instead of Ila Teromma. Now that would have been a side.
Bobby joined Reading and won the League including a 21 point max on his return to Dudley Wood !
@bosssuggs@Stephen78857051 Andy
I think it could have been that one at Oldbury. Riders v Speedway writers and Photographers. Think I’ve got what passed for a programme somewhere. Recall Bobby S throwing an American football round in the warm up. LOL
Bob
@Stephen78857051 Not sure whether this is the one in 1981 at Oldbury Utd (York Road) that included all the riders her plus Eddie Kidd and a couple of others.
There was definitely a knobbly knees competition which it looks like might be being judged here.
Plenty of decent speedway riders in this pic but not sure about their footballing skills. No idea of the venue or occasion? Could that be Dave Lanning on the far right bending over looking across the line of players🤔
@UprightSpeedway Not everyone knows that Dan McCormick tried to sign Ivan for Cradley but he couldn’t do it as we raced on Saturdays. Dan asked him for a recommendation and he came up with Bruce who promptly scored 1 on his debut. Wonder what became of him?
@UprightSpeedway@SNSactiongroup@bobxski Always a special place as the Heathens took part in a 4Team Tournament that demonstrated the fan base was still there. It persuaded CVS, Nigel and Patch to set up the National League Team in 2010. I’ve got a bib that Hans Andersen (in his ‘Gundersen’ leathers) signed that night.
The really big news this week is that the planning application to demolish Swindon's Abbey Stadium was unanimously rejected. The battle is by no means over but it's a victory for speedway in Swindon 👏
@SNSactiongroup and @bobxski are the people to follow for updates
Remembering Phil Bass who passed away OTD in 2006. Phil spent his career mostly in the second division racing for clubs such as Scunthorpe, Long Eaton, Stoke, Oxford & Milton Keynes. In 1977 he doubled up with Bristol & performed well. He retired in 1978. R.I.P. Phil.
@UprightSpeedway Ivan definitely but I don’t recall Johnny B in a full face helmet. Leathers would be ok though. I was wondering if it could be Peter Collins.
@UprightSpeedway Probably the greatest of all domestic individual meetings the Golden Hammer. Great prizes for every race winner. Kept everyone interested right to the end. Better line ups than some World Finals.
@Stephen78857051 Triggy was my favourite rider when I started going to Cradley.
Ronnie Moore was a brilliant rider. One of the few who could ever be called graceful on a bike.
Happy days!
@UprightSpeedway A great loss to the sport. Such a wonderful rider. I still habe no idea how he could get his left foot pointing like that. RIP Tommy Janson
The Robins Steen Mastrup & Poole's Neil Middleditch & Kevin Smith round the first & second bends @ the Abbey while Swindon's new Aussie Darryl Simpson appears to prefer a less conventional way. Swindon is a Speedway Town.
Debbie was very proud of Ivan's blue plaque in Stockport and I'm very proud of my blue plaque coin. She made sure I received it before she passed away and I shall treasure it forever
#RIPDebbie
