He was (supposedly) a legacy fan before he was a dev
He was a game designer on Tag 2 & the lead director on T7

Tekken 8 feels like competing visions.
One side pushes accessibility, sales and constant aggression.
Another values identity and fundamentals. That voice feels less present now.
Then there's a diplomatic middle layer trying to balance both without fully committing.

Tekken 8's design philosophy is to have more forced up-close interactions and to make decisions more high commitment. It's very odd that VF players will see Tekken players complaining about this and think that VF is the thing they're looking for.

Virtua Fighter has always had better movement. The real reason that Tekken players won’t dedicate themselves to vf is because vf punishes the movement that Tekken is based from. For example KBD would get punished just by a neutral mid kick for big stagger guaranteed damage.

It’s the difference between Lars d1+2, which you should never get hit by, & DEN 3+4, which you also shouldn’t get hit by but might catch you freezing
Yeah the mental stack matters, people aren’t robots, but i24 is very very easy to see

in a real match after conditioning, that gap closes hella quick. and 'reactable depending on animation' is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. reactable in neutral is not the same as reactable after you've dealt with her entire kit after a few interactions.

Claudio db3 was i24 pre-S2. King db3 is i23. Zafina d3 is i22. Bear db4 is i21.

these are all lows that become unseeable after you’ve applied enough conditioning and have changed up your timing.
Anna’s new low is only 1-2 frames slower on average. It’s also unparryable, and hits at range 2. maybe it’s a good thing you think it’s weak lol 😂

I feel Asuka is a bit worse than her S1 iteration without the vortex now but its GOOD, its definitely making her rely on CH timings and defensive reads more like her older self, how it should be

People are complaining about the TEKKEN 8 Season 3 update like the devs didn’t give y’all what you asked for. The real problem? Y’all don’t even agree with each other, what one player likes, another doesn’t like. That’s why it looks like nobody likes it.

@tekken_masterbh This is the one thing I don’t understand… why is the risk reward so bad for a lot of mixes? Lars for example… his normal lows are death on block, cool his stance lows are a bit safer but ones like SEN2 have to be risky because of the strength his mids offer imo

It’s not like being high level at any other sport, there’s a tremendous amount of mechanical skill and understanding of the game involved

A good example of why this is wrong is 9 times out of 10, "getting good" in competitive games is finding a macro to abuse or a combo that's so overpowered there's no reason to play anything else.
They do, in fact, make the games shit to play because if you want to do anything remotely fun, you have to understand you're never going to win.
Dominant strategy is bad. It's not suddenly good when it's in a competitive environment.

I deeply love XII and think the gambit system is both satisfying and weirdly soothing but automating gameplay is not a good long term strategy

@JuiceMan_V XII is perfection. The Gambit system is amazing and would make all the new games party combat even better. The FFVII remake would be so much better with this system in place.

@LumpyTheCook I'm generally not as hard on people who feel this way because I do think you can appreciate aspects of games without playing them.
That said, as an artform, interactivity is key to the experience. So you're never going to get the whole picture without playing.
