@LukeGaughan @tomhfh well for one the people who love encryption most are pedophiles. Even the US has a law ( dating way back) that forces platforms to proactively hand over some data.

BREAK: Absolutely horrific news for iPhone users in the UK. Apple is removing its highest level data security tool from customers in the UK, after the government demanded access to user data. This is a move that Apple has never made before in any market.

@GeromanAT @RnaudBertrand @apocalypseos Because, first of all, it isn't a NATO proxy war. It isn't even a war all of NATO is aligned on. Secondly, just because something is a proxy war for us does not mean it isn't a real war for Ukrainians; it is simply also strategically beneficial for us to back them.

Wow, this has got to be one of the most 'saying the quiet part out loud' statements since the start of the Ukraine war. Boris Johnson: 'Mate, let's face it... We're waging a proxy war! We're waging a proxy war but we're not giving our proxies the ability to do the job. And for years and years we've been allowing them to fight with one hand tied behind their backs and it has been cruel. It has been cruel and moral...' He obviously meant to say 'morally wrong' there at the end... I still remember the time when suggesting - as John Mearsheimer or Jeffrey Sachs (or, more humbly, myself) have done since the beginning - that this was a proxy war of the West against Russia was considered 'Russian propaganda'... Johnson is saying the West has been cruel to Ukrainians. Which is absolutely correct, but not because we've only 'been allowing them to fight with one hand tied behind their backs' as he suggests, but for the very fact we've used them as proxies in a war that could a) have been prevented or, save that, b) could have been shut down early on. All resulting in hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian casualties. The only 'pro-Ukraine' position has always been and will always be that of those - like Mearsheimer or Sachs - who've always called out Western instrumentalization of Ukraine. That's what's always been cruel and morally wrong, and Johnson has a lot to answer for in this regard.

@SwishDiggler @BBCNewsnight @vicderbyshire In what respect was it leading? It used his own words - which applied directly to the situation at hand - against him, and completely cornered him into trying to bluster and crowd-please his way out of it.

@LowbankBaron @cowmanpete @JeremyClarkson Indeed! You could have, for example, lied about writing an article for The Times three years ago in which you admitted to buying a farm to avoid inheritance tax.

UK SNUBS ELON BECAUSE HE CRITICIZED OPPRESSION OF FREE SPEECH Elon has not been invited to the UK government's International Investment Summit because of his posts during recent riots that saw people jailed for comments they made online. The summit in October is the key moment that PM Keir Starmer hopes to attract tens of billions in inward funding for business from the world's biggest investors. Elon attended last year's event and took a starring role in the AI Summit, including a fireside chat with then PM Rishi Sunak. Source: BBC

Could any picture sum up our new men’s rights movement better? The smirk of a male who’s knows he’s protected by a misogynist sporting establishment enjoying the distress of a woman he’s just punched in the head, and whose life’s ambition he’s just shattered. #Paris2024

@A1an_M @CJKay93 @UKHSA It's always amusing to read ye olde adverse events are rare excuse, which has been used for decades. But unsurprising given the lucrativeness of vaccines, especially if you can get it on some kind of schedule.

@A1an_M @UKHSA Knowing is how you get it through clinical trials. We know that fewer than one in ten suffer any side effects at all, and the majority of side effects are mild to moderate (headache, myalgia and pain at the injection site) and last no more than a few days.

@CJKay93 @UKHSA OK. So the risk of RSV for the mother is zero. Let's assume for now that is correct. What is the risk to her of autoimmune disease caused by adjuvants or other ingredients in the vaccine? We don't know, do we ?

@CJKay93 @UKHSA So we need to include the mother in the total health assessment of the vaccine as well as the child. Good point.

What is the total health impact of deploying these vaccines? Vaccine testing typically only focuses on the efficacy of the vaccine against the specific illness it's supposedly protecting against. But even if this vaccine is effective against RSV, does it make children more susceptible to other illnesses and is it a net positive for their health overall? What studies have done on the impact on the entire health of children following vaccination (compared with a placebo) and over what period? For example we know that influenza vaccination can make people more susceptible to infection by other respiratory infections like coronaviruses. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31607599/

@JAugustine02 @sportdinw @EdKrassen @america_mad NATO expands at the will of joining members. If Ukraine doesn't want to join NATO then it won't. If Ukraine does want to join NATO then as a sovereign, independent state it is not the right of any third state to decide otherwise.

WOW. History Dr. Timothy Snyder just completely debunked and embarrassed Marjorie Taylor Greene after she kept pushing the narrative of Nazis in Ukraine. “On the question of Nazis, I’ve written two books as a historian about Nazis and the holocaust. On the question of Ukrainian nationalism, I am the leading scholar of that subject in North America. I’ve been writing about it for 20 years. "If the chamber is interested in the degree of far right participation in Ukrainian politics, you can be assured that no far right party has every surpassed 3% in a Ukrainian election. So of course there are bad people in any country but by any comparative standard, it’s a very small phenomenon. "In Russia, on the other hand, the army includes openly Nazi formations… The government, itself, is fascist in character, and is carrying out a war that includes the deportation of children by the 10s of thousands, the open intention of destroying a state, as well as mass torture. "So if we’re looking for fascism, and if there is anyone who is sincerely concerned about halting fascism or racism, you’d look to halt Russia."

Not necessarily against this but given our main interventions of the last 25 years have been failures, let's be clear up front: - What counts as success? - Realistically, how far wd we need to go to achieve this? - How will we avoid being dragged into something we don't want?

I have many friends in the U.S. and Europe. We all work in tech. High-paying jobs. All of my US friends can afford a vacation in Europe once a year. No sweat. None of my European friends can. Doing it once is a stretch. Once per year is out of the question. Anecdotical evidence, I know, but lifestyles are very different.
