Canada’s innovators don’t lack ambition. They lack capital. Over the past few months I’ve had dozens of conversations with founders across Canada. A quiet anxiety keeps surfacing. It isn’t about talent. It isn’t about ideas. It isn’t about work ethic. It’s about capital formation

Taking in the festive lights in downtown Ottawa. Today is definitely the calm before the storm. Enjoy a mix of sun & cloud, then ⬆️ cloud. High -9°. Freezing rain begins ~9pm and lasts until ~midday Mon. May mix with ice pellets. Temps may briefly rise above 0° before ⬇️ Mon pm.

🚨 STARTING DECEMBER 16TH, META WILL BEGIN READING YOUR DMs - EVERY MESSAGE, PHOTO & VOICE NOTE FED INTO AI FOR PROFIT Meta is rolling out a new policy that lets them use your private conversations to train their AI - unless you manually opt out. That means: • Every DM you’ve ever sent • Every photo • Every voice memo • Every private chat with friends, family, partners, clients • Even messages people send to you All of it can be fed into their AI models. And yes - they made the opt-out process intentionally confusing and desktop-only so most people won’t do it. This video explains exactly how to stop it. If you don’t do this, Meta can legally use every private thing you’ve ever sent to train their AI - starting December 16th. This is not a drill. Would YOU trust Meta with your private DMs?

What you are actually doing here is to bribe nokia to put these jobs into Canada by paying hundreds of thousands of dollars per job from taxpayer money. What this does is to lower the cost basis of nokia per employee. This has been going on for decades, called FDI which all civil servants think is a good thing. I spent a lot of time explaining to civil servants in ottawa that its not good for our economy that American and Oversees branch offices can employ Canadians at half the cost to all the canadian companies around them due to these subsidies. We should not do them at all, they are toxic, at least in the tech sector. It's never meat to be this way, but the situation that very often arises is: It's strictly worse inside of Canada to be a Canadian company compared to a company headquartered everywhere else. This is a bad situation, because the fruits of the subsidized labor will accrue to the wealth of other countries and not Canada. It's tax payer money invested into locking up scarce high tech talent in jobs where they no longer contribute to the Canadian economy directly. Why

This is the dirty secret of AI rn. Every large company has paid for something called “AI” so they can report up to the CEO and Board of Directors that they are “on top of it”. But little is working in production or at hi quality. Chat and code gen are the two exceptions. The reality is that it is still quite difficult for companies to get hi quality, predictable code into production that is AI centric and replaces legacy features. New capabilities are equally difficult to build and launch. This is what we also initially encountered across our customers and across industries at @8090solutions. That is why we built Software Factory. Software Factory allows teams from solo PM-Developers up to large groups to organize themselves, write quality requirements, build thorough Eng plans, extract detailed tickets, write quality code, QA thoroughly and repeat this process in an increasingly automated way until the project works. It is tuned for complex environments, making it also work very elegantly for de novo projects. We will release Software Factory in the wild Sep1. You can sign up for a preview here: 8090.ai

some intern at mckinsey is probably slopcoating a report on this but let me give you an insider news: most large corps are not happy with the agentic systems & POCs they’ve done this year. 2025 was supposed to be the year of agents. so far it’s been the year of letdowns.
