@CardinalWayne @rupasubramanya I do, because a strong opposition is what make Canada great. Without a strong alternative, then it is just one party rule forever like in Ontario or Alberta. Not good for anyone involved, specially when those leaders are so willing to use nonwithstanding clause

A career politician who lost his own seat, lost the election, had an MP clear out a safe riding to parachute him back in, clings to the leadership as the party bleeds support and MPs head for the exits, and still holds forth about meritocracy. Amazing.

A year into Carney's term:
- His $246m Major Projects Office has approved zero projects,
- No progress on an interjurisdictional export pipeline to anywhere,
- Anti-development Liberal laws, like the federal industrial carbon tax and the never-build-anything-anywhere Bill C-69, are still in place.
It's no wonder investors lose hope.
Conservatives will continue to fight to make Canada the fastest place in the world to get a permit and scrap anti-development Liberal laws, to restore investor confidence, so the private sector can build major projects for the benefit of all Canadians.

Peter Lougheed later (and rightly) argued that the notwithstanding clause should only be used where:
- rationale is clearly articulated
- 60% of the legislature votes for it
- a court has already weighed in, i.e. it should never be used pre-emptively

The Notwithstanding Clause is integral to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and an unassailable provincial constitutional right. Alberta Premier Peter Lougheed insisted it be included to protect the autonomy of provinces to uphold the values and priorities of the people they represent from decisions of activist courts. In Alberta, we have used it carefully and lawfully to stand up for the parental right to be involved in their children’s lives, to protect children so they can make important health decisions as adults, to ensure fairness in sport, and to keep students learning in the classroom. We are extremely disappointed that Minister Sean Fraser would risk national unity and a foundational principle of our constitution by attempting to attack the use of the notwithstanding clause by sovereign provincial governments.
