Rene Valencia arrested for aggravated assault. ☠️ April 2: Fatal shooting at 10100 block E Virginia Ave. One dead. 🔪April 3: Stabbing at 12th & Wabash: One victim with unknown injuries. 💈April 4: accidental shooting inside a barber shop (16th Street Maul near Champa. 🚔 April 4: Shooting near 18th & Stout: One person hospitalized; suspect arrested. ☠️ April 5: Fatal shooting at Broadway & Maple outside of The Dahlia nightclub - Sounds like Dahlia patrons and police officers were also involved in fights. One killed early Sunday morning. ❌☠️ April 5: Shooting at Russell Square Park. Reports say this may have been a drive-by shooting with at least 2 victims taken to the hospital. DPD confirmed one fatality, an adult female. Families were at this park when tons of gunfire rang out… was this targeted? Soft-on-crime policies + no accountability = ViBRaNCY!!

My daughter had a seizure the day of her well-baby visit. An MRI showed progressive demyelination - the result of some inflammatory or autoimmune process I was told. “We don’t know if she’ll develop normally. We don’t know what caused this to happen, and we know you asked about her vaccinations that morning, but we know it wasn’t related those. Vaccines don’t cause this.” I was a young mom with no medical training and I believed them. It took me years - and a medical degree, and years of hearing that same story come out of other mothers’ mouths while I stood on the other side of the exam table - to understand what had actually happened in that conversation. The actual truth was, they didn’t know. They just weren’t willing to say so.

This peaked me more than any other single incident. The man pictured, “Gabrielle” Darone, spent 9 months simulating a pregnancy, including feigned morning sickness and the wearing of a fake belly, with the intention of play-acting the loss of the imaginary baby. He also joined a support group for grieving mothers who had lost children, seeking validation and “support” for his planned “stillbirth.” He even went so far as to rent a machine that simulated contractions, and bought a plastic “baby” which he inserted into his rectum and then “gave birth to.” Afterwards, he took two weeks off from work to “grieve.” Women who objected to his presence in the group - women who had actually lost children - were kicked out so that this man could feel supported in his game of ‘let’s pretend.’ Their very real grief was considered less important than this man’s sexual fantasies. To top it all off, he did all of this in the house he still shared with his unconsenting soon-to-be-ex-wife and their minor children. He even roped his 7 year old into taking “maternity pictures.” Mr. Darone also convinced his doctors to provide him with drugs to induce lactation. He asked the members of an online breastfeeding group he’d joined if any of them would be willing to let him “breastfeed” - that is, sexually assault - their babies, and attempted to donate the chemical-laced sludge he pumped out of his moobs to “other mothers.” These men have proven over and over again that there is no aspect of women’s pain that they will not twist into a prop for their sickening deviancy, from rape to oppression to sexual objectification. Even the loss of a child in the womb is fair game to them: a perverted, selfish, hyper-sexualized game of make-believe that must always take priority over the real pain and real needs of real women.

Countless lives were saved. Nicholas Bostic was delivering pizza in Indiana when he saw a house go up in flames. Without hesitating, he ran into the house and pulled four occupants out. He was then told there was a six year old child still inside. Bostic ran back into the fully engulfed home, found the child and while cradling her, he jumped out of a second story window to safety. A lot of attention is given to the worst of society, but we need to remember that the human spirit is still alive and well. These are the people that our attention should be focused on. Our lives are all elevated when we take seriously the responsibility of being our brothers keepers.
