Growing up, I was told that my father died from an ailment which lasted for a few weeks. But getting older, I noticed that I bore my mother's family name and I never met any of my father's family. When I asked my mother about it one time, she told me that my father's family accused her of killing him and chased her out of the family and she had to care for me alone. Hearing this, I felt pity on her and even hated my father's family and decided not to have anything to do with them no matter what. I stopped asking after my father knowing he was dead, but I always wished he still was alive. I got into the University at seventeen. At first, my mom wanted me to skip a year, but after being convinced by her siblings, she let me in. Getting into school, I felt a different kind of freedom, but I made sure I didn't misuse it, as my mom didn't cease to remind me how I was her only heart left. One day, I received an anonymous gift from a dispatch rider. I called all my friends who knew where I lived, but none of them accepted they were behind it. I also had to confront one of my admirers and he too denied it. After two weeks, I received another one. I decided to open both packages and saw something that stunned me. Whoever sent those things mentioned that my father was alive and he could show me who he was. I felt someone was stalking me, but I couldn't tell my mom as that would freak her out. I decided to tell my best friend, Lucy and she promised to keep it a secret as I asked her to. One holiday, I asked my mom after my dad and she was shocked I brought it up, as it had been years I did so. I could see the disappointment and maybe fear in her eyes. She asked why I was asking. I told her it was Fathers day's week and I just wanted to be reminded about my father. Her face relaxed after that. She told me how my father had died in a plane crash while I was still very little. At that moment, I knew she was hiding something, something very crucial and important. I requested for a picture of him, but she said she lost everything when she was chased out of our house. I stopped asking and decided to find out who the anonymous person was. I decided to meet with the anonymous person after I asked the dispatch rider to send my own package to the anonymous person. Some years back, I had a dream where I was in a familiar place. I knew I had been to this place before, but I didn't understand or recall. I could see a friend standing in front of a grave, but I couldn't see the face clearly, or perhaps I couldn't remember. When I woke up, I told my roommates about it and they asked me to pray about it. Well, I thought it was just a casual dream, and prayed about it though, but I felt I could have done more. About two weeks after or thereabout, a friend lost the parent. That was when the place came back to mind and I remembered. I was down for a while and carried this guilt, till I was able to let go.

In that dream, I saw men on uniforms, carrying guns and chasing people. I found myself running all the time, going from places to places just to hide. Fast-forward to 2021, in reality, I was in a school where I taught when we started hearing gunshots. I've never felt so scared like I did that day. People were killed that day and it continued. This was the scandal in the East.
