No. This is not the result of gentle parenting. It's the result of being a negligent parent and then suddenly turning around and trying to institute discipline into a child you've trained to expect you to give in. You begin taking things away when they are old enough to understand. You begin tapping their hand with a tiny sting when you need to get their attention immediately at 3 or 4. Hitting your kid is abuse because they don't understand. THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PSYCHOLOGICAL CAPABILITY OF UNDERSTANDING WHY YOU ARE VIOLENT because the prefrontal cortex of the brain, which is responsible for impulse control, reasoning, and critical thinking skills, does not fully develop until a person is 25. It's like hitting a dog. No matter how old the child is, all he or she will learn is that they cannot depend on their parent for safety.
