The Supreme Court decision didn't spend much time on whether Trump's invocation of "Emergency Powers" was actually responding to a real emergency.
But my feeling is, like, if Trump declared Switzerland imports to be a national emergency *before* the Swiss gifted him a literal bar of gold, and then changed his mind after the Swiss gifted him a literal bar of gold, it is reasonable to wonder about the precise nature of the "emergency" of Swiss imports!

@DKThomp “Anger about affordability” and then promised that half of everything will now be free and no prices of things you actually pay for will ever go up. Reality (free) going to hit like a ton of price-controlled bricks.

I would love to read more about the young-dude swing to the left yesterday.
One possibility: This cohort is blowing right and left in the wind. Except the wind is “incumbent anger about affordability.”
Another possibility: It was an off-year election, which probably means the electorate was more educated and therefore more left leaning anyway

@CynicalPublius If you manage people at work you will recognize this as the feedback/discipline cycle not revenge. 25 years of feedback, no improvement. The point was reached that performance is so bad we know cost > value. The poor performer is disciplined for last time. Final Boss level.

What is happening right now in the USA to Democrats is a (currently) non-violent version of a phenomenon that has been part of human society from time immemorial.
It’s the idea of in-kind revenge against aggressors once they are defeated.
WWII offers a good analogy (not because it was literally Hitler but because it’s recent enough that many people alive today are familiar with what I am about to write).
As Nazi Germany was slowly defeated and withdrew from occupied areas, the ordinary citizens of formerly occupied France, Belgium, the Netherlands and elsewhere took vengeance upon captured or surrendering German soldiers, often simply putting a bullet in the back of their heads. Nazi sympathizers and Vichy France supporters were publicly debased and then killed unceremoniously. Women who slept with German soldiers had their heads shaved publicly while they were beaten and spit upon. If they were lucky, these women were expelled from their communities. If they were unlucky, they were killed. To Germany’s east, Allied troops stood by and watched as survivors of death camps took out their killing fury on their former guards. Further east, the Soviet Union was marching German soldiers to their deaths, whether on the march or in their ultimate destination of a Siberian Gulag.
I am not suggesting that MAGAs ought to be doing any of these violent things, or that Democrats are like Nazi Germany. What I am suggesting is that when a group of people have been oppressed for a long enough time, when they are finally free of that oppression it is human nature to respond in kind to the former oppressors as revenge.
It’s human nature.
So Charlie Kirk’s assassination has given us our “we’re not gonna take it anymore” moment. The enemy is in retreat. And we are now treating that former oppressor to the same damage they wreaked on us: cancel culture, constant ridicule, enforced silence, fear of arrest for merely being at a rally, lawfare—everything the Democrats have been doing to us for 25+ years.
It’s literally revenge.
Is revenge right? Is it wrong?
I don’t know, but it is human nature. That I am sure of.

BREAKING NEWS:
Republican Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas has split with his party to admonish the reckless and illegal shutdown on USAID:
Moran says the aggressive change at the USAID office shut down left $340 million in lifesaving food grown in the United States sitting at domestic ports, waiting to be delivered to various destinations where people are STARVING.
"Time is running out before this lifesaving aid perishes," Moran said. "Food stability is essential to political stability, and our food aid programs help feed the hungry, bolster our national security and provide an important market for our farmers, especially when commodity prices are low."
This is not a democratic vs. republican issue. This is a humanitarian issue!
Thank you Senator Moran for speaking out!

@RealKidPoker Looked about the same for Rs pre-Trump right? Party came around to DJT this time around after struggling vs plenty of never-Trumpers in their own party during his first stint. Ds are going to need someone with similar ability to influence to pull them out of this hole.

Forget for a moment your political views and imagine politics is a game played by two teams.
The goal is to win over the public, taking positions that are popular with voters.
Strategically speaking, one team is consistently on the unpopular side of every issue and have an all time low approval rating.
Yet, they are not adjusting, they are doubling down on a provably losing strategy, making it easy for the other team to rack up wins.
In my lifetime, I don’t think the Democratic Party has ever been worse off than they are now.
They need to fire the coach, GM, owner, and shake up the current roster, trading The Squad to Timbuktu.

@Noahpinion Let’s take Ernst at face value and say 50% of grant $$ went to overhead at these NGOs. Red Cross uses 90% of funds for services. Would you consider that extra 40% used by NGOs on “overhead” and not spent on the intended purpose fraud or waste?

I'm hearing lots of claims about "massive fraud", but no specific examples.

It’d be nice to have a bit of consistency from MAGA explainers as to wtf the plan is.
When the US dollar appreciates, it makes it easier for Americans to buy foreign stuff (the imports I thought we were discouraging?) and harder for other countries to buy *our* stuff (the exports I thought we were encouraging?).

Now that the dust has settled, here’s what I believe happened with the debate:
The war between Biden machine & the Obama machine spilled into the open
Democrat leaders on both sides are truly panicking about Biden’s crashing poll numbers
Biden knows if he’s out of power, his crime family will be prosecuted and disgraced and Jill Biden has gotten way to used to the lifestyle - she won’t give it up
Obama team knows their mafia operation will be prosecuted under Trump as well
So both sides are desperate and fighting over whose strategy is best to beat Trump
Obama machine launched a final sneak attack to pressure Joe to drop out after the debate that they knew he would be awful in
It didn’t work
Biden met with Obama the next day, made clear he wasn’t quitting, and now Obama machine puppets are all backtracking, including Obama himself
It’s now clear that Biden controls the DNC machine while Obama controls the media machine
The Democrat machine as a whole is begrudgingly unifying behind Biden in hopes that he can pull it off
But make no mistake - these people are truly scared of what’s coming down the road for them under Trump
I’ve never seen them act this desperately
These are not the moves of a confident & powerful regime
They are divided and desperate
If Trump wins, we will truly destroy the Deep State and they know it
Push forward with everything you’ve got b/c these weakened criminals are on the ropes
