Without biodata resources, there is no advance in the life and biomedical sciences. In its 2033 selection, @globalbiodata has announced a further 15 Global Core Biodata Resources, bringing the set up to 52, collectively serving a breadth of domains, data types & user communities.

@ewanbirney @barleybirney Budget is the main thing. Grinder is often more important, and good ones for home espresso are expensive (eureka mignon for example). Gaggia Classic is iconic and robust. Profitec Go is new and highly rated! James Hoffman on YouTube is a good resource.

Oh (uk) twitter/hive mind. My lovely wife (@barleybirney) wants a home espresso maker capable of making flat white. Ideally this would be a stylish small Italian thing, reliable and durable. We don’t want a coffee pod linked to big corporate coffee (sorry George). Any pointers?

@con_meehan As much as spatiotemporal data is a mandatory requirement for many of our pathogen checklists, people aren’t obligated to use those checklists and can use the default. We didn’t have mandatory spatiotemporal sample metadata until this year, hence the disparity in legacy data

While gathering data from the ENA on the country of origin of Mtb samples, I find that many people either didn't fill this in or just filled it in with the word 'country' despite it being a mandatory minimum requirement for pathogen data. Do some people just hate open science??

Contracts are signed, so I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that I will be moving to the University of Glasgow in the new year to start my own research group as a Lecturer in Bacteriology in the School of Infection and Immunity 🥳🍾

First day of new position! So thankful to all who helped me with the promotion package, the external reviewers for reading the 55 pages(!) and the @AROM_NTU team and my wider collaboration network as research isn't done alone! Looking forward to even more cool research as an AP.

@bioinformer @BitTorrent @globalbiodata Definite need to have a genuine scientific conversation about availability of data. Likelihood that all data need not be on hot storage. We may need to transition some data to cold storage to save on cost, depends on how patient people can be for the data they need

@ColmanOC @BitTorrent @globalbiodata Agree! I just have concerns about monolithic storage solutions to exponentially growing resources that need to be shared and used under a variety of different contexts. Not suggesting blockchain is an “answer” but more thinking a democratization of storage is a path to scaling

Hmmm - thinking about the huge amount of data that NCBI, ENA, and others are storing for free for the global research community and wondering how sustainable it will be long term. I mean - eventually this will break right. What is plan B here?

@bioinformer @BitTorrent Although in all seriousness, sustainability of computational life sciences services is a critical concern. Not one to be remedied by reinventing the wheel, but to convince some funders to commit money to maintaining these long term. Hence @globalbiodata s mission is important
