Those numbers were a drop from the previous game where she recorded 17 points and 12 assists—again, against Senegal. Meanwhile, Bueckers and Reese finished as the two most productive players for Team USA. And right on cue, the think pieces flooded the timeline. Now the narrative shifted.

Different players contributing on different nights to help their team win. Which brings us back to the real question: If every performance immediately turns into a comparison, a rivalry, or a theory about teammates working against each other, is that truly the type of discourse that “grows” the game? Or is it simply noise that distracts from the game itself?
