I was impressed by the U.S. rescue of the downed airman. It is a rare remoralizig action, an elevation ritual, something good in modern society so bereft of such gestures. Great expense and effort to rescue fighters who might otherwise become prisoners further shows a high level competence. Nobody cares or needs to hear this from me, but I’m just registering my opinion that: 1) LLMs are a totally ordinary technology. But so were cars. Ordinary technologies can have big impacts. 2) They are *very obviously* not reasoning and the way that smart people specifically trick themselves on this point is critical to understanding many things about the world.
