A monumental loss. I so vividly remember working with Dr Canning on an away SubI… so incredibly engaging and a deeply kind soul. Made me feel like a valued member of the OR as a visiting med student. Will strive to practice with his level of warmth and dedication to his team.

I think back to how after each case, Dr. Canning would thank every person in the OR one by one, even me as a med student. I aspire to have the same level of compassion and respect in my career as he did every single day. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and the CHOP team

We lost a friend, mentor, and colleague yesterday. How tragic and sad for so many. Our hearts go out to the Canning family, the CHOP family, and everyone whose lives Doug has made better for his devotion to humankind. Rest In Peace, brother.
