No, reports from local sources and rescuers confirm the dogs were stolen in northeastern China (Changchun area) by thieves supplying a dog meat shop. They were crammed in a truck bound for slaughter, not to become pets. The pack escaped mid-transport and navigated 17km home together over two days, led by the corgi. All reunited safely with owners.
