The UK’s proposed ban on Under 16s using social media—what this should and shouldn’t mean. Keir Starmer was light on the detail in this morning’s press conference. A ban should mean that anyone under 16 may not have an account with any social media company. Children may go online, use browsers etc, but banning accounts prevents strangers from accessing them and shields them from algorithmic abuse. No personal accounts. Such a ban should also apply to gaming platforms where children can be approached by strangers. The responsibility must be on the social media companies to verify age, with criminal and civil sanctions for failure. It is not for the apparatus of the State, but rather the onus must be on social media providers in compliance with legislation to control access to social media accounts. I oppose any State-sponsored one-for-all digital ID card.

My first instinct was to support the UK’s social media ban for under 16s. Protecting children from grooming, exploitation and harmful content seems like common sense. But I’m seeing a lot of opposition to it, so I’m genuinely curious as to why? One thing making me second guess is that platforms like bluesky are exempt, while at the same time there’s a push to let 16 year olds vote. To me that looks less like child protection and more like controlling where young people get their information. Interested to hear other perspectives.

I really struggle to understand these @GerryAdamsSF, @GerryCarrollPBP, @pb4p socialist types. The likes of Gerry Adams killed people because unionists took all the good jobs, all the social housing, etc., and they told us they were fighting a just war for our civil rights. Now these socialists invite the billions of surplus humans from around the world (@sinnfeinireland has said there should be no cap on immigration) to be in direct competition with us for jobs, for housing, for schools places, hospital and GP treatment, etc. which drives house prices and rents higher, wages lower, and our health into the gutter. They also cry about climate change and being 'Green' while simultaneously supporting the destruction of our environment and wildlife to build new houses, new sewage and water treatment plants, new power stations, new roads, etc., for the foreign hordes that land on our island each year. Each one that comes is coming for a low consumption society to a high consumption society, which increases our overall consumption of food, fertiliser, gas, electricity, petrol/diesel, causing inflation and more pollution. Our birth rates have been below replacement for 30 years, so these new houses that blight the landscape are not for us. Our birth rates have been below replacement which is where they wanted it with their support of abortions and telling us to have less kids to slow climate change. What is going on inside the heads of these socialists? Are they just regarded hypocrites, or is something more nefarious going on? Are they paid actors of the elites pretending to be socialists?

So it’s about stifling conservative voices, not protecting children.
