@RyanHurst171 @rootcausesleuth I just explained how I used it. Choose your own word - the point still stands. Your rule is your personal preference. So be it. But it is not sourced from, or modeled in, the New Testament. I pray your church leads so many people to Jesus that you need 2 services.

Churches should only have two services on the Lord's Day. A morning service and an evening service. Neither should be a repeat of the other, but both should be their own service that the whole congregation is to attend as they are able.

@DavidCFreeman @rootcausesleuth My church is anecdotal and doesn't prove anything for you regardless. I need you to substantiate your claim that what I'm talking about is a modern innovation

@RyanHurst171 @rootcausesleuth lol. It is you who made up a rule that is no more than “muh preference” and is neither taught nor modeled in the NT. In fact it is based on the modern practice of building church buildings and scheduling services where people sit in rows and face the front instead of each other.

@DavidCFreeman @rootcausesleuth They substantiate my point more than anything else does for you. I can also appeal to the temple and the practices regarding all types of worship in scripture. All you have is "muh preference"

@RyanHurst171 @rootcausesleuth Synagogues were more like community centres than religious places although they were the place where people gathered to hear Scripture. They were places where those who showed up could debate even if they were not members of that synagogue. They don’t prove your point.

@RyanHurst171 @rootcausesleuth The biblical standard is that the believer’s gather. When small groups meet, that is the church meeting. There is no biblical standard that says that a certain defined group of people meet every week at the same time and the same place. You are adding to the Scripture.

@DavidCFreeman @rootcausesleuth This is a category error. We aren't talking about small groups. If small groups were superseding the gathering of the body together for worship and sacraments on the Lord's Day then that would be bad too. This standard is biblical not artificial

@RyanHurst171 @rootcausesleuth But that is such an artificial standard. We encourage congregants to meet in small groups so that they can practice the “one another’s” that are so prominent in the epistles and so absent from “services”. We encourage small groups to share communion together. This is healthy.

@DavidCFreeman @rootcausesleuth Yeah, I'm saying this is not good and should not be the standard. We should strive to have one service where the whole body is in fellowship and communion with one another. We should strive to have the Lord's Supper administered to the whole body at one time, not separately

@RyanHurst171 @rootcausesleuth And the church shares staff, gathers in multiple small groups, supports missionaries, exercises compassion to those within the church and community etc etc. Multiple services do not destroy the unity we share in other ways.

@RyanHurst171 @rootcausesleuth Ryan, you are blind to your own contradictions. On one hand you support church planting but then you call two congregations sharing the same building divisive. Why don’t you celebrate the fact that people attend church services, share communion and worship Jesus?

@DavidCFreeman @rootcausesleuth Yeah you probably should limit the number of covenant members because a church with too many sheep makes it hard for the pastor/elder to shepherd properly. At a certain number the church should seek to plant a new church and send some elders and congregants to said church

@RyanHurst171 @rootcausesleuth Will you limit the number of covenant members to the number who can fit into the building at once? Like I said, you need to break out of your box (literally!). Pray that you will need to use the building 2, 3 or more times on a Sunday! It won’t happen if everyone thinks like you.

@DavidCFreeman @rootcausesleuth I didn't say the whole body of Christ, I said the whole body of a church. I'm talking about a local church session, and the number is whatever the number of covenant members is.

@RyanHurst171 @rootcausesleuth How many people does it take to include “the whole body of Christ”? 10,000? 1,000? 100? 10? Who gets to decide what the rule is?

@DavidCFreeman @rootcausesleuth No, the ideal is that the whole body of a church gathers together, not separately. Most of the times I've seen churches that have multiple services it's done as a means of convenience, not necessity. If it's necessary then that's one thing, otherwise the standard should be one

@RyanHurst171 @rootcausesleuth The problem is that you made up a stupid rule to begin with. And my “exception” proved it. Wouldn’t it be great if so many people were coming to Christ my “exception” would be the rule?

@DavidCFreeman @rootcausesleuth I have already said that there are exceptions to the rule. You responded to that exact comment. This comment was entirely unwarranted and disrespectful

@RyanHurst171 @rootcausesleuth We need 3 services to fit everyone in and still can’t keep up with the number of new Christians and new people. If that creates 3 churches, so be it. The more churches the better and sharing resources is good stewardship. Break out of your box. Your God is too small.

@rootcausesleuth Having multiple services divides the body and turns going to church to worship the Lord a question of convenience. I understand it has to happen sometimes though depending on circumstances so I have charity for that for sure

@Joshua_M_Hump Unpopular take: churches with multiple services create multiple churches. Bring back Sunday School, one main service, Sunday night service, and mid week services. This builds Christian community, unity, and edification of believers.

Churches who have a traditional style service and a contemporary style service at different times in the morning on the Lord’s day is a shame to Christianity.

@farmingandJesus @WonderWomaNinja I agree but the post you posted talked about sexuality in general, not about telling kids they are born the wrong gender. I can’t read your mind (and you can’t read mine) so you may want to be more specific next time.

@DavidCFreeman @WonderWomaNinja It’s sexually harassing teaching kids saying they are born the wrong gender. Please change your bio , it doesn’t fit your mind. Put on the mind of Christ if you would like to keep the bio.
