The only people who actually think like this are terminally online rage addicts.
A truth nuke for these folks is to get offline and visit a southern highlands crafts show; the Mt. Airy fiddlers' convention; any old family church in Edgecombe; any mountain folk dancing competition. All filled with families whose roots in this state go back a century, or two, or three.
None of those places are particularly political - folks there are too polite. But if you took a poll, they'd all range from D+10 to D+50.
By contrast, there is absolutely no one more white-knuckled MAGA than the retired New Jersey boomer who moved to Leland 8 years ago to larp a "southern" lifestyle he saw on TV and whose entire politics revolve around pissing off his ex-wife.

My friend who lives there made a good point that him saying this is literally messing with people’s livelihoods. Memphis is already a poor city and you’re calling for a team to be moved and for jobs to be lost? Just so you don’t have to spend one night there?

not gonna quote tweet anyone specific, but i've seen a ton of people point out that lebron has gotten much more flack for his comments than other players like draymond and marcus smart who also spoke negatively on memphis recently. 1) people DID roast both of them, but 2) what lebron says objectively carries more weight. he's the most famous basketball player in the world. it's fine if he doesn't like a hotel in memphis. but to go as far as saying a whole team should move out of a small market is going to upset people, especially those who love and care about the city and are tired of the disrespect. not sure why people are being dense about this

They went to go sing for the queen of England over 100 plus years ago. Both are impactful to their respective cities and the state as a whole.

Some of the takes I’ve seen today about LeBron after the Memphis comments are giving me a headache.
Stop overthinking everything. LeBron is not a sellout because he doesn’t think Memphis is a destination city for the NBA. I promise you it’s not about race, crime, poverty, etc…
It’s just not a city that provides NBA players the same things that LA, NYC, Chicago, Miami provide.
