If folks can't see the seismic shift happening right now, then I dont know what to say. Yes, it's still early, and yes things can change, but the stoppage numbers are lower than even I had thought was possible. Whether it's the rules whether it's styles of play, perhaps in response to the rules, the cause doesn't really matter. Xerri needs stoppages to score well, as do all rucks. The rucks that don't have the capacity to offset the reduction in stoppage numbers via transition scoring will be severely impacted. In 2025, Xerri, on average, attended 85 ruck contests per game. This year so far: Rd 1: 71 Rd 2: 79 Rd 3: 49 The Rd 2 game against WC was actually a very high stoppage game by 2026 standards, more in line with 2025 numbers, add in the easy matchup, that's what explains the Xerri ceiling score. The Ess game last night had 60 ruck contests in total, unfathomably low. I can't overstate how low that is. For a ruck that relies more than most on stoppages for scoring, he had no chance. I wouldn't be calling Xerri back just yet. He won't play WC every week.

Adam Treloar: Test Will most likely play VFL this week. Played forward when he was fit last season. Bont, Libba, Kennedy and Richards look to be locked into the midfield again for 2026. Scores of 90, 60, 94 and 35 (injured) in his four games last year from around 34% mid time.
