A great insight from the professor why hip mobility is important for football players. This highlights the importance of athletic development and who Arsenal emphasised “most efferent movers”

I built my first Shiny app called Growth & Maturation App . It is a simple tool for coaches and practitioners to estimate: •Maturity Offset using the Mirwald (2002) equations •Age at Peak Height Velocity (PHV) •Predicted Adult Height using the Khamis–Roche method🧵⬇️

Brilliant! Working in the youth space, we are told repeatedly that teams/players lack fitness & need to run more. Having the capacity to meet the demands of the sport is important, but how it applies to your game model (context) matters more.
Paul S Bradley@ContextIsKing9

1/2 More running ≠ better performance. It depends. Across decades of match data, there is no universal rule. Top teams succeed with very different physical outputs, even within the same league. It’s shaped by game model, opposition and context.

Over the last month, I have been encouraged by the response to the launch of my applied CPD courses in elite football performance. Uptake has been fantastic, with practitioners enrolling from the US, UK, Sweden, Spain, Germany, France, Poland & Saudi Arabia. DM for access 1/3

꩜ ⚽️𝐀 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 - THREAD (1/10) Development is NOT LINEAR. It is Non-Linear. Players go on a journey with their learning experience and will display consistency and inconsistency in performance adaptations Instead of working in 'blocks' where we're heavily loading work under the assumption it will be better retained, which can often treat players as these 'computers' we're attempting to download information into which later is forgotten, how can we design meaningful, personalised and connected learning experiences that compound over time. By designing a cyclical approach to our work, we're able to focus more on "DEPTH" vs "BREADTH", by establishing a deeper understanding and mastery of concepts With a Spiral Curriculum, the player(s) are able to return to the same core game ideas, principles and situations but in new contexts, and at different, higher and challenging speeds, whilst considering the nuanced journey of the individual. Throughout this thread I will share my adapted Spiral Curriculum and unpack the concept further as well as how I link in an ecological dynamics rational and constraints led approach within a model/framework

In football, we hear the term “Train as we Play” all the time, but how true is this in reality? From experience, it is typically a delicate blend of art and science. See thread...

Girls are 2–8x more likely to tear their ACL than boys. But it’s not because they’re “fragile.” 👉 Let’s talk about what actually drives risk.
