@OnlyFoolsLines The original broadcast version was perfection. The DVD edit with the fake laughter track added is an abomination.

@rorysutherland Unpopular opinion; the milk as sold in supermarkets is far superior quality to what was sold in glass milk bottles as I remember them. They were speckled with lumps, didn't taste great and always going off quick; the foil caps absolutely useless at resealing.

It also makes political canvassing more difficult. Back in the 1980s, the default rule was if you washed your bottles you voted Tory and if you didn't you voted Labour. SDP made yoghurt from their own goats or something.
Sama Hoole@SamaHoole

In 1995, 45% of British milk was delivered to the doorstep before seven in the morning by a milkman in an electric float. In 2026, it is 3%. The milkman has been effectively abolished inside one human generation. The supermarket walked in, undercut the cost by a few pence per pint, and the daily ritual of British household life, glass bottles clinking on the step at half past six, was gone by the time the children of 1995 had finished secondary school. The cost to the customer was a few pence per pint. The cost to the system was, in rough order: the glass bottle that was washed and reused hundreds of times, replaced with a plastic bottle that is used once and recycled imperfectly. The local dairy that supplied one town, replaced with a national processor that supplies half the country. The milk that arrived four hours after milking, replaced with milk that arrived three days after milking after a journey of 200 miles. The conversation on the doorstep, replaced with a self-checkout beep. The milkman himself, incidentally, had the lowest recorded rate of heart disease of any male occupation in Britain. He walked approximately 12 miles a day, finished work by 10am, and ate a cooked breakfast. He has been replaced, in the same delivery role, by a zero-hours Amazon Flex driver sitting in a Ford Transit. A small piece of British daily infrastructure was quietly demolished. Nobody was consulted. The milk is still being produced. It is just being produced further away, transported further, kept in plastic, and sold at a different margin, by a different business, to a customer who never sees who milked the cow. The milkman knew your name. The self-checkout does not.

@ChaunceyGardner @ZubyMusic Thanks. I quit smoking probably around 10 ish years ago now after 18 years of habit, took up vaping 2 years later and stopped about 2.5 years ago. I figured the air where I live is already bad enough without me adding to it. :)

@DeusFoxy @ZubyMusic Congratulations on quitting smoking. Truly. And I respect your choice to quit vaping too. People often say things like "lungs are meant for fresh air." Just don't go to Google Scholar and search for "indoor air pollution" in a normal home... :-)

BREAKING NEWS: Top U.S. Nuclear Chief Caught LEAKING Sensitive National Security Information to Stranger, Reveals Army Chemist Was Exposed to U.S. Chemical Nerve Agent, Confirms U.S. Strike Killed Children in Iran, Discloses U.S. Plans to ‘Kill Iran’s New Supreme Leader’ “If he [Mojtaba Khamenei] doesn't change his ways, yeah, they're [United States] going to kill him.” “The easiest way to get intelligence…send a pretty girl, talk to the guy…I have to resist your eyes.” “Your eyes have mesmerized me so much…Almost like you're an intelligence.” Andrew Hugg, a U.S. Chief of Chemical Nuclear Surety, was caught on hidden camera casually revealing sensitive information to a stranger in a public restaurant. Andrew Hugg, Chief of Chemical Nuclear Surety, in charge of nuclear and chemical safety was caught on hidden camera releasing information regarding the U.S. Nuclear Information. He claims the U.S. still possesses nerve agents and says a U.S. Army chemist recently died from exposure. He also acknowledges U.S. airstrikes have killed children in Iran, calling it “collateral damage,” and revealed to the journalist how nuclear launch decisions are made in real time. Hugg described how the United States could assassinate Iran’s next leader if he “doesn’t change,” while admitting the U.S. has no plans to use nuclear weapons: “We’re not going to nuke anybody.” All of this was casually revealed to an undercover journalist in a restaurant. This raises serious questions about this official's judgment, security, and what’s really happening behind closed doors. We have reached out to the Pentagon and U.S. Army for comment and they are working on a response. @USArmy @DeptofWar

@ChaunceyGardner @ZubyMusic I'm an ex-smoker and ex-vaper. I decided one day that even with vaping, I was playing Russian Roulette with my body. There's still too much we don't know about the long term impact of imbibing this sugary chemical gases. Really, lungs are only meant for fresh air.

Richard Holmes 🕵🏻‍♂️
Sir Olly Robbins was not able to view the below document when making a decision about Peter Mandelson's vetting because it was deemed so secret. Yet, the Cabinet Office released it publicly in a heartbeat to protect the Prime Minister. Robbins, with over 20 years of experience in civil service, claimed to have never seen such a document until the disclosure. Quite an extraordinary use of protected national security material for political defence.

@Pirat_Nation They're not completely unaffected; they'll now need to verify their age in all cases. No shop will take a risk of falling foul of this legislation.

Parliament has passed the UK’s Tobacco and Vapes Bill to create the first smoke-free generation. From 2027 the legal age to buy cigarettes and tobacco will rise by one year every single year. Anyone born on or after 1 January 2009 will never be legally able to purchase them in their lifetime. Current adult smokers are completely unaffected, this only targets future generations.

Sir Keir Starmer has told his Cabinet that Olly Robbins was a 'man or integrity and professionalism' who made an 'error of judgement' “(He) concluded by saying that Sir Oliver Robbins made an error of judgment, but that he is a man of integrity and professionalism. “He said it is wrong that the current Cabinet Secretary and permanent secretary at the Cabinet Office had been attacked despite doing exactly the right thing and sharing the information with the Prime Minister once they had gone through the correct processes to do so. “He said that there are thousands of hard-working civil servants across the country who are full of integrity, doing excellent work every day.”

****THE OLLY ROBBINS BOMBSHELL EVIDENCE**** * Number 10 applied 'constant pressure' to the foreign office to clear Mandelson's appointment and took no interest in his vetting. The message was 'get this done' * The Cabinet Office argued that there was no need to vet Mandelson at all. The Foreign Office insisted that there needed to be security vetting * No 10 took a 'dismissive approach' to the vetting process. There was 'constant chasing' from Starmer's private office in No 10 over Mandelson * Mandelson was given access to the FCDO building and granted 'higher classification briefings' before he was granted security clearance * Sir Keir Starmer tried to get his then director of communications Matthew Doyle an ambassadorship. Robbins was told not to inform David Lammy, the then foreign sec. Robbins resisted on grounds that Doyle did not have the credentials to become an ambassador. Doyle was subsequently found to have given public support to a sex offender * Robbins directly contradicted Starmer's claim that he would not have appointed Mandelson if he had known he failed his vetting. Robbins says that it would have been 'very difficult' to block him given the pressure from No 10 * He pointed to the fact that the appointment had been announced, the King had been informed, agrement had been secured with the US - all before the vetting had taken place * He says that blocking Mandelson's appointments would have 'damaged US-UK relations' and caused issues with Donald Trump and his administration * Starmer's central charge against Robbins is that he failed to tell him that Mandelson had not cleared his vetting. Robbins says he did not see the vetting report. He was given a verbal briefing by the foreign office's security team that UK Security Vetting considered Mandelson's vetting to be borderline although it was 'leaning against'. The foreign office security team considered that the security risk could be managed. He agreed. Mandelson was granted developed vetting * Robbins's case is two-fold: 1) He couldn't have told Starmer something he didn't know and 2) He was the ultimate arbiter of whether Mandelson should be granted DV status * Robbins says that when Mandelson was sacked he tried to get hold of the Mandelson UKSV vetting document. He was told by the Cabinet Office that he needed a UK national security justification to access it

What is clear is there was no good reason for Starmer to sack Olly Robbins. Complete knee-jerk act of self preservation which might blow up in his face.

The evidence from Olly Robbins is devastating to Keir Starmer. It is clear that No10 not only made the appointment before vetting was completed, but that Mandelson was already acting as the Ambassador before the vetting - even seeing highly classified documents. With this, and the 'constant pressure' No10 applied to the appointment and their 'dismissive attitude' to vetting Mandelson, it is now absolutely clear that 'full due process' was not followed. Keir Starmer has misled the House.
