Everyone presses blue = Everyone survives Everyone presses red = Everyone survives Most people press blue = Everyone survives Most people press red = Red survives, but straight up all the blues get killed Red is beneficial to only you, you don't even save anyone by choosing it
MrBeast@MrBeast

Everyone on earth takes a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press? BE HONEST.

@Thy_Planet @TheExCount @doxntme I'd still be voting blue because I value altruism over cynicism, and I'm aware that people are not as terrible as you think they are.

@DeusWombat @TheExCount @doxntme You missed the point... Random pushers end up 50/50 so they can be ommited. The world population is greatly outnumbered by low iq self serving people who will push red. This greatly increases odds of you simply dying. This makes you suicidal if you decide to gamble your life.

@firstphas3 @ACMEngineer @FrogeLole @scarlettscarlia Yes, lol. I would risk my life to save the people who unintentionally and inadvertently had their lives put to risk. I guess its just me being crazy to you but it's a pretty simple decision for me. I don't envy you

@Mccoy_Labadsy @WorldDomStudios Don’t try to dodge the question. The choice can be anonymous but nothing in the hypothetical said that you can’t talk to family and friend before they make the choice. The question is whether you ask you kids, family and friends to gamble with their life by picking blue

A person with a high enough IQ would realise society in general operates on community and cooperation. Kids, kind people, People who believe in goodwill and the people with "low IQ" would all probably choose blue, choosing red is strategically leaving them to die.
Mark Elevate@mark_elevate

@rojalita25 @FondOfBeetles Blue button doesn't put the group first. It's an IQ test and you're failing it. There is no group benefit to pressing blue. If there were an outsized reward for everyone if blue won, that would be different. But it's not how the question is written.

@suited_summoner There will always be someone who picks Blue. Exactly why I vote for red.

“Everyone.” Children. The elderly. The otherwise incompetent. Those who press red are selfish. Rational, yes, but selfish. In an ideal world, where everyone was rational, everyone would indeed pick Red. But that’s never gonna happen. There will always be someone who picks Blue.

@MarcyBelowFloor I wouldn't. I'd love to be able to selectively take pain but to absolutely take it all effectively removes pain as a consequence, good or bad.

You are given a device that would instantly take the pain of every human on earth and free them of it. In exchange, you will experince all human pain from past , present and future in a single second and remember it as your own. You cannot die until you are 100. Use it?

@ACMEngineer @scarlettscarlia or the senile, or the mentally handicapped The thought experiment is clear with its use of "everyone". You are adding new parameters that change the scenario. Its obvious, disingenuous and embarrassing.

@Thy_Planet @TheExCount @doxntme They're always relevant to the problem, which is that there are innocent blue voters. The only way to save those innocents is to vote blue, an even greater imperative now that you've pointed out that we need to offset randomized red votes as well

@ACMEngineer @scarlettscarlia Again, "everyone" means babies. Or the senile, or the mentally handicapped etc etc. There will always be a significant number of unintentional blue voters

@ACMEngineer @firstphas3 @FrogeLole @scarlettscarlia Sorry but no. "Everyone has to vote" means that there will always be millions of non culpable blue voters like babies. The scenario is asking if you are willing to risk your life as the only way to save these people

@Yatoplayz you can generously assume that they do not realize that there will be millions if not billions of unintentional blue voters

@ACMEngineer @scarlettscarlia The original post makes it pretty clear that there will be unintentional blue voters, this bridge analogy doesn't apply.
