RCGP survey: Make your vote count: mailchi.mp/healthcare-pro… Can people share far and wide to all our GP colleagues. Please complete your college's survey to consider the need for a change in the law to allow assisted dying #dignityindying #choice #dignity

This is shocking. David’s wife was too ill to travel to Dignitas on a commercial flight, so they were forced to hire a private air ambulance. This cost them £20,000. By refusing to legalise assisted dying, our elected officials are turning their backs on dying Brits.

Some questions are difficult. How can the Tories be 15 points ahead of the opposition in the polls today. How?

This is shocking. "The nurses would ask if they could do anything for her. She would put two fingers to her temple in the manner of a gun." Heather’s mum had a really good life...but a really bad death. No one should have to die in these conditions. Change the law.

Emotional job for @NWAmbulance transferring gentleman to a hospice for his final days. Gentlemen “any chance on the way we can go via my favour place I used to walk and sit to see it for one last time?” “Anything you want sir!”

"It can though be as simple as just being able to use the words ‘death’ and ‘dead’ — we wrap everything up now euphemistically — like saying people have ‘passed’, or that we’ve ‘lost’ somebody." Greg Wise on the language of death. medium.com/death-dying-an…

@dr_zo @scottishphil83 Couldn’t agree more. It’s about choice. Debating whether we’ve only seen good deaths as doctors misses the point (and would necessitate removing some rose tinted specs!)

@scottishphil83 Sadly I have seen this. But it’s not about what we see as clinicians, or what we want. It’s about giving patients a choice - they don’t currently have one. I think they should but that requires us to acknowledge we cannot give everyone the death they want and deserve atm

This is harrowing to watch, but many families will recognise this from watching their loved ones die. Patients should be able to have a choice about their death. Let’s have the conversation #dignity #restinpeace #endoflife

WARNING: The inescapable truth about dying in the UK is difficult to watch. But 17 people a day will suffer as they die. Doing nothing is not an option. The law must change if we are to end the suffering. twitter.com/dignityindying…

bbc.co.uk/news/health-49… This is uncomfortable watching and unnecessary. It's clear; the law needs to change because people want and deserve DIGNITY and CHOICE at the end of their lives and if they're adults with capacity then it should be each individual's choice, no one else's.
