ADC Warns Government Agents to Hands Off ADC Judicial Matters —Says Government Agents Are Pressuring Justice Nwite to Recuse Himself The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned the federal government to hands off judicial matters and immediately cease all alleged attempts to interfere in the ongoing case involving Nafiu Bala Gombe through covert pressure on Hon. Justice Nwite to recuse himself from the matter. The party said it has uncovered a disturbing plot by desperate forces within the corridors of power to frustrate the course of justice by mounting pressure on Justice Nwite to step aside from the case so that it can be reassigned to judges perceived to be pliable and politically compliant. This sinister plot, if allowed to stand, represents a direct assault on the integrity of the judiciary and a dangerous escalation in the ongoing attempts to weaponise state institutions against the opposition. Information available to the ADC Legal Team indicates that despite the fact that the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court judgment has not yet been released or formally communicated to the trial court, the matter has curiously been fixed before Justice Nwite for May 8, 2026. We have credible reasons to believe that this unusual haste is part of a calculated scheme to force Justice Nwite into recusing himself, thereby creating an opening for the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court to transfer the matter to judges allegedly considered more amenable to political influence. This development runs contrary to both the spirit and letter of the directives earlier issued by the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, which ordered an accelerated hearing of the matter by the substantive trial judge. Any attempt to remove the case from Justice Nwite, whether by administrative manipulation, intimidation, blackmail, or coordinated pressure, amounts to a deliberate interference in the due administration of justice. We must state unequivocally that judicial recusal is not a toy for political convenience. It is an extraordinary measure guided by law, facts, and established judicial principles, not by whispers from desperate political actors seeking favourable outcomes through the backdoor. Even where petitions exist against a judicial officer, due process demands that all parties be notified and heard before any decision is taken. A judge does not abandon his constitutional duty merely because vested interests have manufactured allegations against him. What is unfolding before Nigerians is an alarming attempt to bend the judiciary into an annex of partisan politics. The growing desperation to procure “friendly courts” and “convenient judges” poses a grave danger not only to opposition parties, but to the survival of constitutional democracy itself. We therefore call on the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Chief Justice of Nigeria, and all men and women of conscience within the judiciary to urgently intervene and halt this dangerous descent into judicial compromise. The ADC further calls on the National Judicial Council (NJC), the international community, and diplomatic missions in Nigeria to pay close attention to these dangerous developments and impress it upon the Nigerian government that democracy cannot survive where courts are manipulated to serve partisan interests. The independence of the judiciary remains the bedrock of every democratic society, and any attempt by state actors to intimidate judges, influence judicial assignments, or interfere in politically sensitive cases strikes at the very heart of constitutional governance. Nigeria must not be allowed to slide into an era where justice is no longer determined by law, but by the whims of those who wield political power.

Rebuilding Brotherhood Trust Across African Borders I have been observing with deep concern the alarming rise of xenophobic attacks in South Africa. I strongly condemn these acts. My thoughts are with all those affected—especially our Nigerian brothers and sisters, whose lives, businesses, and dignity are once again under threat. No African should feel unsafe on African soil, or anywhere else. I commend the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mrs Bianca Ojukwu and her Ministry for their swift response to this issue. I recall my visit to our compatriots during a similar crisis. It was a painful experience that revealed both the suffering and resilience of our people. It also highlighted a fundamental truth: beyond borders, we share a common identity and destiny as Africans. Such experiences should have inspired lasting solutions, not recurring tragedy. In this regard, I urge the authorities in South Africa to act decisively - to protect lives and property, bring perpetrators to justice, and restore public confidence. Yesterday, I formally joined the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), alongside my dear brother, Engr. Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with one clear purpose: to continue the struggle for a new Nigeria built on justice, competence, accountability, and compassion for the ordinary Nigerian. As I stated yesterday, this decision was not made out of anger, personal ambition, or convenience. It came after deep reflection on the present condition of our nation and the urgent need to rescue Nigeria from the dangerous path it is currently heading. Over the years, I have remained steadfast in my conviction that politics should never be about individuals, positions, or personal gain. It must be about the people, especially the millions of Nigerians who today can no longer afford necessities, whose businesses are collapsing, whose children are losing hope, and whose future is becoming increasingly uncertain. I left the ADC for the same reason I left the Labour Party: the severe, orchestrated litigation and internal crises deliberately designed to ensure that I, alongside many other notable individuals, do not effectively participate in the electoral process. I sincerely appreciate and remain deeply grateful to the Leadership of ADC for the opportunity to work together in pursuit of a better Nigeria. I am particularly grateful to ADC Chairman Senator David Mark for his exceptional Leadership. I also deeply appreciate my Leader and elder brother YE, Atiku Abubakar, as well as other respected leaders within the party. As we join the NDC, I sincerely appeal to the Nigerian Government against the encouragement of unresolved litigations and the infusion of crises within political parties. Democracy must never become a weapon against the people. A healthy democracy thrives on strong institutions, credible alternatives, and the freedom of citizens to make choices without intimidation, manipulation, or fear. Opposition parties must not be weakened or destroyed, because when democracy loses balance, the people ultimately suffer. Nigeria today is passing through one of the most difficult periods in its history. Poverty is rising. Hunger is widespread. Insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods. Our decision to join the NDC is therefore not an abandonment of values, but a continuation of the same mission we have always stood for: building a Nigeria where leadership is about service, where public resources are managed responsibly, where institutions function independently, and where every Nigerian, regardless of tribe, religion, region, or social status, can live with dignity, security, and hope. I remain committed to working with all Nigerians of goodwill across political, ethnic, and religious lines. The task before us is bigger than any individual or political party. It is about the future of our children and the survival of our dear nation. WE ARE IN CHARGE. Stay On Course: ADC Must Not Be Distracted Nigeria is a democratic nation. Everyone is free to join or leave any association; political, ethnographic or religious. However, in politics, intent is often revealed not by declarations, but by patterns. The recent movements around Peter Obi and the African Democratic Congress have followed a pattern that demands scrutiny, not sentiment. When he made overtures toward the African Democratic Congress (ADC), many within the party approached the overtures with caution—and rightly so. Political coalitions are not built on optics; they are built on alignment, discipline, and shared purpose. Yet, from the outset, there were contradictions. While engagement was being signaled at the top, a significant portion of his support base remained outside the fold, often antagonistic toward ADC structures and leadership. That disconnect was not incidental—it was instructive. Rather than consolidating, there appeared to be an attempt to probe, test, and perhaps reposition internal dynamics. But institutions that are grounded in process do not yield easily to transient ambition. ADC members held their ground. Solidly. Then came the decisive intervention of the Supreme Court of Nigeria—a ruling that effectively reset the narrative and extinguished the manufactured turbulence within the party. With stability restored and no internal crisis left to exploit, the strategic interest quickly dissipated. The exit was as telling as the entry. Now, the relocation to another platform raises familiar concerns. Political migration is not inherently problematic—democracy allows for it. But when movement is frequent, opportunistic, and seemingly tied to where leverage can be maximized rather than where structure can be strengthened, Nigerians must ask hard questions. We have seen this playbook before: ⬇️Enter where there is momentum ⬇️Attempt to influence internal levers ⬇️Exit when structure resists manipulation ➡️Re-emerge where disruption is easier to manufacture. And accompanying this cycle is often the orchestration of perception—through elite endorsements, online bullying, curated narratives, or favourable projections that give a false impression of their strength. Figures like Atedo Peterside will now be invoked to lend technocratic credibility, with opinion polls or projections that conveniently elevate a preferred candidacy. But Nigerians must distinguish between data and design—between genuine public sentiment, engineered and manipulated consensus. Democracy is not a marketplace for inflated expectations. A WORD TO ADC MEMBERS. The temptation to engage distractions is real—but it is also costly. ADC stands today at a critical inflection point. With internal stability reinforced and judicial clarity established, the task ahead is not reaction—it is expansion. 🧊Build stronger ward-to-national structures 🧊Deepen grassroots engagement across all regions 🧊Recruit credible leaders with proven constituency value 🧊Institutionalise discipline and internal democracy 🧊Present a coherent national alternative rooted in policy, not personality Noise will come—and it will grow louder as momentum builds. But political maturity is measured by focus, not frenzy. The future of ADC will not be determined by who comes and goes. It will be determined by what is built—and how firmly it stands. The Bottom Line Nigeria does not need more political tourism or nomadic movements. It needs commitment, consistency, and character. Let others chase platforms that bend easily. Fellow Nigerians, good morning. I woke up this morning after my church service with a deeply reflective heart, and despite every constraint, I felt compelled to share these thoughts with you. Many people do not truly understand the silent pains some of us carry daily—the private struggles, emotional burdens, and quiet battles we face while trying to survive and serve sincerely in difficult circumstances. We now live in an environment that has become increasingly toxic, where the very system that should protect and create opportunities for decent living often works against the people—a society where intimidation, insecurity, endless scrutiny, and discouragement have become normal. More painful is when some of those you associate with, believing you would find understanding and solidarity among them, become part of the pressure you face. Some who publicly identify with you privately distance themselves or join in unfair criticism. We live in a society where humility is mistaken for weakness, respect is seen as a lack of courage, and compassion is treated as foolishness—a system where treating people equally is questioned simply because you refuse to worship status, tribe, class, or power. Personally, I have never looked down on anyone except to uplift them. I have never used privilege, position, or resources to oppress others, intimidate the weak, or make people feel small. To me, leadership has always been about service, sacrifice, and helping others rise. Let me state clearly: my decision to leave the ADC is not because our highly respected Chairman, Senator David Mark, treated me badly, nor because my leader and elder brother, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, or any other respected leaders did anything personally wrong to me. I will continue to respect them. However, the same Nigerian state and its agents that created unnecessary crises and hostility within the Labour Party that forced me to leave now appear to be finding their way into the ADC, with endless court cases, internal battles, suspicion, and division, instead of focusing on deeper national problems and playing politics built more on control and exclusion than on service and nation-building. Even within spaces where one labours sincerely, one is sometimes treated like an outsider in one’s own home. You and your team become easy targets for every failure, frustration, or misunderstanding, as though honest contribution has become a favour being tolerated rather than appreciated. And when you choose to leave so that those you are leaving can have peace, and you step out into the cold, you are still maligned and your character is questioned. Despite all your efforts to continue working for a better Nigeria and engaging people with sincerity and goodwill, those who do not wish you well continue to attack your character and question your intentions. There are moments I ask God in prayer: Why is doing the right thing often misconstrued as wrongdoing in our country? Why is integrity not valued? Why is the prudent management of resources, especially when invested in critical areas like education and healthcare, wrongly labelled as stinginess? Why are humility and obedience to the rule of law often taken to be weakness rather than discipline? Let me assure all that I am not desperate to be President, Vice President, or Senate President. I am desperate to see a society that can console a mother whose child has been kidnapped or killed while going to school or work. I am desperate to see a Nigeria where people will not live in IDP camps but in their homes. I am desperate for a country where Nigerian citizens do not go to bed hungry, not knowing where their next meal will come from. Yet, despite everything, I remain resolute. I firmly believe that Nigeria can still become a country with competent leadership based on justice, compassion, and equal opportunity for all. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

Clarification on My Political Position We have noted recent media reports and discussions suggesting a possible realignment within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to the current challenges facing the party. In light of the misleading narratives in the public domain, I wish to state categorically that no final decision has been taken regarding my political future or that of my political associates. The recent Supreme Court judgment, while affirming the legitimacy of the David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC), also remitted the matter back to the High Court. This has left the party in a precarious position. In addition, the Federal High Court has recently ruled to delegitimise the party’s recent convention. The Attorney General of the Federation has also strangely applied to a Federal High Court to deregister the ADC. We left the NNPP due to externally influenced legal problems that made our stay perilous. The ADC has now been also forced into this difficulty. Consequently, like other major stakeholders, we have commenced wide-ranging consultations — including with leaders from the NDC, PRP and others to explore the best options for protecting our democratic interests. We shall announce our decision in the soonest possible time. On the issue of presidential candidacy, I wish to recall my consistent record as a committed democrat. In the 2014 APC presidential primary, I came second to President Muhammadu Buhari (whom I fully supported to victory), with Atiku Abubakar third, Rochas Okorocha fourth, and the late Sam Nda-Isaiah fifth. Similarly, in 2019, I contested the PDP presidential ticket and immediately supported the winner, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, serving as the campaign’s coordinator in the North. I have always placed national interest and party unity above personal ambition. Furthermore, the ADC is yet to zone its presidential ticket or take any decision on a candidate. I have therefore neither declared any intention to run for president nor endorsed any aspirant. All speculations to the contrary are premature and unfounded. My absence from the two recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings was due to unavoidable personal commitments. I promptly communicated my apologies to the party leadership.
