As someone who actually liked this show, I am beyond grateful that Dune & Dune Messiah were adapted into a blockbuster movie trilogy and not into a 6 episode per season TV show.

Spoiler, As a subtle inside joke, Colbert wants to call the bad guy DTrump. And every page of the script is a long rant about how the orange haired DTrump is evil. There is also a subplot about sending the Orcs back to Orcmania. It's all very clever and sophisticated.

The USS Gerald R ford clearly got hit by some drone or missile. They are trying to maintain this illusion that our forces are invincible. We had planes that got shot down? Friendly fire or some “accident”. A ship is heavily damaged and will be out of commission for 12-14 months? Just an onboard fire, nothing to see here.. it’s ridiculous

Yeah. Problem is, Tolkien started working on a sequel and then, luckily, realized, it's a really bad idea. I hope they'll come to the same conclusion more sooner than later, because there's no story. Sauron is gone, the Ring is destroyed. What worries me is that they might just do the cape shit nonsense of inventing a bigger bad, bigger than Sauron, but smaller than Melkor.

But he’s writing a sequel, so his knowledge is basically useless. In terms of lore LOTR is right at the tail end of everything. Most lore is like 1st and 2nd Age.
