Parents, both, are neurologically hardwired to give all for their children. Yes it’s a spectrum, but the vast majority are just following their biological mandate when they gush and fawn over their children like this. It’s their biology, not a deficit in anyone else.
Kevin | Large Fam Dad@LargeFamDad

My boss's boss is like 42, never married, no kids. Earns $275-300K per year. Goes on a minimum of two international vacations a year w/ his girlfriend. 10+ days, all out. Eats the best food, stays in top notch accomodations. Excursions, tours, nicest beaches, etc. Great guy, I'm happy for him. But what I've realized is that without kids, you end up chasing a lifestyle that has to continually be topped in order for you to be satisfied and find happiness. What he and others like him don't understand is that when you have children, seeing THEM experience life's most basic things and watching their eyes light up at all the "firsts", brings greater pleasure and joy than any vacation or travel experience ever could. Seeing THEM try blueberries for the first time is greater than dining at the best 5 star restaurant in Europe. Seeing THEM learn how to walk is greater than walking the Great Wall of China or strolling along the most picturesque beach. Watching THEM giggle uncontrollably at "peek-a-boo" tops any A-list comedian act. Seeing THEIR excitement when building a fort out of cardboard boxes and making a door big enough for daddy is superior to staying at 5-star resorts. Flying kites with THEM far outweighs excursions like parasailing or helicopter rides. Seeing THEM perform a recital on stage for the first time is more rewarding than watching a Broadway show or top notch symphony orchestra. ----------------- When you have children, all of a sudden you realize that life's greatest joys are not in the pursuit of things or pleasure or travel, but rather in the LOVE and bond you share with your very own image bearers. Seeing the beauty and magnificence and wonder of life all over again for the first time through THEIR eyes and expressions gives you something the world simply cannot offer, nor even come close.

Americans will talk like this and expect a British gay to understand wtf they’re talking about.

Seeing a clear divide between Americans and British on this matter. The majority of British, me included, feel that they "bought and paid for a ticket, which included the wine, nobody died, stiff upper lip, waste not want not, anyone want to swap bubbley for the red?" And the Americans that feel that nicking a few bottles of vino is more of a crime than the assassination attempt.

The President almost just got assassinated and members of the media are using the opportunity to steal bottles of wine. You don’t hate them enough!

@LukeTryl The last time I was stuck at Newark they cranked the heating up to thaw the toilets which had frozen whilst on the ground. Ended up deplaning as the temperature hit dangerous levels.

So close to having my first focus group trip of the year with zero train issues only to hear we are stuck at Newark because something has potentially “chewed” through cables. At least it’s more novel than most reasons.

@s8mb I saw some people saying you get over it in five minutes. Absolutely not. Joy each time.

I’m just looking forward to it. Having lived around football stadiums for most of my life, I’ve seen crowds bring roads to a standstill for hours many times. The car brain in America is a different beast, though. It’ll be a fun watch. From a distance.

If you put up a pay-per-view camera for Americans to watch Europeans walk through East Rutherford, New Jersey, to MetLife stadium, you could fund the World Cup transportation program in under 24 hours.

@uncreativetom Also amused about this being oriented around “FSD” which is Tesla’s terminology. Not shocking that they’re far more car brained vs other providers.

the "FSD" discussion on here is already so interesting because it's all coming from the American perspective that cars somehow have more of a right to be in public spaces than people walking and cycling. it's as if car companies have forgotten the reason Amsterdam is so walkable

Cyclist almost running into a crossing pedestrian Amsterdam cyclists just do not give a single flying F FSD (Supervised) does and is very cautious around this special breed of Dutch kamikaze bikes Final verdict? You decide 👇🏼

Surely we can figure out how to get some sort of internet on trains that don’t go to London. This cannot be beyond humanity

@TheRealMrHK Walking 3k is just 1.8 miles. That’s a walk from Big Ben to St Paul’s. *Loads* of people walk that distance. And beyond. Walking from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge is 2.8 miles (4.6k). And loads of people walk it!

Something we’re going to constantly see imo: AI operates better on the software than the software itself. Good API layers can be manipulated faster, more flexibly, and potentially with more skill by AI than the software previously built on top of them.

Gmail search continues to be awful. So I have been using Gemini to look for emails. Gemini found one email and on the second query replied with "You can find your emails in Gmail Search." I wrote back "LOL -- I wouldn't be asking you if Gmail Search actually worked. It's embarrassingly bad." Gemini goes off and finds the remaining emails I was looking for. What a strange world. cc @Google
