@moonbeeaam Whoa, thanks for sharing this. I haven’t read this Berger text (on to the list it goes) but super interesting as J.C. Monteiro’s last film Vai e Vem centers on this same tree as a site of encounters between life and death as well!

@ASPertierra @mcmansionhell I concur

lukewarm pointless take: academic naming conventions have it backwards. The subject should come first, then the broad title. The book pictured here is correct, and a rarity. Reversed it would be The Crisis of National Cinema (literally could be anywhere/thing): Bunuel and Mexico
English

@alexcfields I have not, though (caveat that it has been many years) I really liked his short book on Tati

@fleetingjpegs @Ronceraille @bnjmncrs And the new wrinkle to Powell’s Wager™ is the weighted odds the new book is a print on demand

@CaptainConcurs @maustermuhle Now do motorists. Any of their actions reflect poorly on them as a group?
English

@maustermuhle Many pro-sumer cyclists seem to really enjoy riding in motor vehicle lanes, on sidewalks, and to a lesser extent dedicated bike lanes.
I'm a pedestrian, driver, and bike rider, and I find it to reflect poorly on cyclists when they demand lanes which go unused much of the time.

The Trump administration is removing a protected bike lane that runs along 15th Street from the National Mall to the Tidal Basin. Officials say it causes traffic; bike advocates say it actually makes everyone safer. 51st.news/trump-administ…

@muttgomery @BigMeanInternet That makes sense. And I’m revealing my interests & inclinations in the broad Pynchon field w/my comments. Like Harun Farocki could make greater sense of GR! I find the sentimentalism in PTA is too divorced from the world. The great affective depths of M&D don’t stand on their own
English

@DrFaustroll @BigMeanInternet Regardless of whether I'd prefer worldier adaptations (gimme the Thanatoids and Godzilla footprint and tiki airline hijackings) seems that P enjoys the PTA focalization, which I think you describe well. Slapstick sentimentalism isn't all of P but its important.
English

@muttgomery @BigMeanInternet Of course, but PTA isn’t a cartoons director. Tashlin would have made a better Inherent Vice.I don’t think PTA thinks about the world & systems in any way at all. He takes a/the world and conically focus in on personal experience & at times dilates out but the world stays receded
English

@DrFaustroll @BigMeanInternet Pynchon famously a cartoons guy
English

@BigMeanInternet This is why I have never understood what Pynchon sees in PTA as an interpreter of his work
