
AIR COMMODORE SB ARUNKUMAR, VSM, DDG NCC DIRECTORATE KAR & GOA
SUPERANNUATES AFTER A HISTORIC AND DECORATED TENURE
Bengaluru, 30 April 2026 - The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Directorate Karnataka
and Goa bids a distinguished farewell to its Deputy Director General (DDG), Air
Commodore SB Arunkumar, VSM who superannuates today following a tenure marked
by unprecedented institutional success. Under his visionary leadership, the Directorate
etched its name in history of winning the prestigious Prime Minister’s Banner and
Trophy for two consecutive years in 2025 and 2026.
Air Commodore SB Arunkumar, VSM an alumnus of Sainik School Bijapur with over
three decades of service in Indian Air Force, took the helm with a focus on
professionalism, resilience, and a “never-say-die” spirit. His strategic guidance
propelled the Directorate to become overall champion Directorate among 17 others
across India at Republic Day Camps (RDC) in New Delhi. Under his dynamic
leadership, the Directorate secured several prestigious national events, including the
Inter Directorate Shooting Championship, All India Vayu Sainik Camp, All India Nau
Sainik Camp and the inaugural Idea and Innovation and Startup Competition.
Beyond competitions, his tenure saw over 200,000 cadets participate in social
development programs and the successful execution of the Yuva Aapdaa Mitra
Scheme (YAMS). By modernizing training with new simulators and expanding NCC
vacancies by over 16,000, he has fundamentally strengthened the youth empowerment
framework in Karnataka and Goa. His distinguished service concludes as the
Directorate stands at the pinnacle of national performance.
