@SandyofCthulhu YES! I dearly wish people would stick to the truth, but so many fall into a hyperbole trap. They think helps make their point. In the end it just discredits not only their credibility, but the credibility of the entire argument.
English

The thing that got me is that Supersize Me just outright lied, and everyone on SOME level of their consciousness knew he lied, but many of us wanted to believe it.
Similarly, there were massive outright lies in Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 and Sicko. For instance, in the former film, he shows Al Gore's campaign endparty, and lies, saying it's a victory party because Gore thought he'd won. And in Sicko, Moore completely leaves out the fact that at the time 45% of American health care was government-paid.
We can look at Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth and while who knew then, the sea has been rising by millimeters not yards.
Going further back to Silent Spring, Rachel Carson told some doozies too.
The problem isn't the topics. Pollution IS bad. We DO need to reform American health care. Eating nothing but fast food IS unhealthy. The issue is that in each case the authors made extreme claims which were easily falsified.
I feel this really hurts their causes, because now even the things they said that are arguably true are tainted by their prevarications. I think this is a general fault of progressives. They overstep, thinking the ends justify them means, then the backlash at their overreach surprises them. If they'd said, "We should be nicer to immigrants." they could have gotten cooperation but instead they said, "bring in 8 million immigrants without vetting any." and now make the surprised Pikachu face when there's opposition.

Just now finding out about @weatherchannel’s retro option, music and everything, and I am weeping openly. Feels so good to be back baby weather.com/retro/

@ElenaMHenshaw @nateobrienn Yeah, there were some concerns about the feeding increasing deer populations, and the communal bait stations becoming vectors spreading diseases like CWD. Still seems worth investigating but I don't think they've been used since a few test sites in the early 2000s.
English

@DuanePBarry @nateobrienn This is Goddamn Genius.
Of course the fcking govt would make it illegal.
Color me infuriated.

@Principal_Jon If you have an old treadmill, the motor from there would work better. Fully variable speed control and most old ones can run on DC.
Washing machine motor works best at 2 or 3 fixed speeds only by switching windings, but it might be good enough using a long extension cord.

@dennismhogan This picture would have a Camry with RI plates doing 65 in the left lane, indifferent to the long line behind them. 😂

Look I love New England and sometimes even Massachusetts but in fairness you gotta post at least one picture of I-95 and it’s in Sharon and it’s 4:30 pm and it’s dark out and theres nasty piles of exhaust stained snow in the medians

@travis4nh Bern's calculation of Elon's tax rate is highly disingenuous as well. It includes their theoretical taxes on wealth and unrealized gains.
Unfortunately most people nodding along are too ill informed to know what that means.
English

Just think - if we confiscated more of Elon's wealth, instead of conquering the stars, we could instead import more Islamic rapists and give them free housing!
Bernie Sanders@BernieSanders
Elon Musk, the wealthiest man alive, recently paid an effective tax rate of less than 3.3%. That is less than the average truck driver, nurse and teacher. YES, we must demand the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share. twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…

@ChrisMaidmentNH Tanerite regulations?
Reminds me of that incident in Bristol awhile back. The whole lakes area heard it 😂

@ewarren If all you want everyone to pitch in 2 pennies and it does all that I'm for it.
Unless we're just dropping the "per" off "percent" to make a tax sound more palatable now?

@MouserElec I think everyone that called out the error fell for the trap

@StatisticUrban @sethharpesq Some comments on it being shutdown... I believe because the cost and maintenance dramatically exceed modern PV and the focused energy was roasting birds to death at an alarming rate.
I can't say if China has overcome these issues but I'd be skeptical.
English

@sethharpesq The US quite literally has one of these in California. The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System

To the immiserated proles of the Epstein Empire, this doesn't even look real. In the United States, "advanced" technology is a bumbling Waymo that won't get out of the way, or the Unit 8200 app that scans your face at the airport.
Volcaholic 🌋@volcaholic1
China’s solar power plant in Dunhuang uses around 12,000 mirrors to focus sunlight onto a central tower, heating molten salt to extreme temperatures. That heat is stored and used to generate electricity on demand, including after sunset.

From startup to shutdown, loading Windows 3.1, MS Word, and MS Excel, on a computer several orders of magnitude slower and with 1000x less RAM than a modern PC.
Note how snappy everything is.

No it isn't. We don't have to live like this!

I'm installing Microsoft Office 4.3 on Windows 3.1 right now just to show you guys what they took from us.

You Can't Make This Up:
To prevent fraud, the state of Connecticut passed an emergency bill, SB 299, introduced by Democratic leaders and signed into law by Governor Ned Lamont (D) on March 3, 2026 which requires a copy of a driver's license when redeeming >1,000 cans or bottles in a single day at bottle redemption centers.
This measure aims to prevent fraudulent actions, particularly by out-of-state residents crossing borders to exploit Connecticut's higher 10-cent deposit refund rate (compared to 5 cents in neighboring states), which was reportedly costing the state revenue.

BREAKING: Microsoft just announced several major changes to Windows 11 in an effort to win back user trust and evolve the platform into something people will actually want to use over macOS and Linux!
It's a huge announcement that addresses Windows 11's biggest problems today, tackling core fundamental issues such as unreliable system performance, UX consistency, AI bloat and general enshittification.
Microsoft has confirmed that this year, it WILL be reducing where ads and Copilot appear throughout the system, including in Start, Widgets, Notepad, Photos, and more!
File Explorer and Windows Search will be upgraded with improved performance and capabilities that make finding apps and files much faster and easier.
The OS will become lighter with less RAM and system utilization at idle, making it smoother to run on low end hardware with limited memory. These improvements will also benefit high-end PCs too.
Windows Update will be improved with more granular controls and the ability to postpone updates for longer, along with reducing how often the OS needs to restart to install an update.
Microsoft has also confirmed that it's bringing back fan favourite features such as the ability to move the Taskbar! It's also working to update more areas of the system shell with modern WinUI designs, which should make Windows 11 feel more coherent and complete.
There's much more in the announcement, and it honestly all sounds too good to be true. Microsoft really is listening to feedback, and is eager to make Windows the BEST desktop OS on the market. More details including when these changes will arrive in the link! windowscentral.com/microsoft/wind…

@lauriewired Flourinert always reminds me of a Beyond 2000 segment where a Macintosh, while powered on, was dunked into a tank of the stuff.
I've never been able to find it again.
