Within the last month, two very determined enemies of Irish republicanism - Harry Barnes and David Winnick - died Both were left-wing MPs for the UK Labour Party. Many "republican socialists" live in a fantasy world where such creatures do not exist - only nasty Mrs T & co.

Columbus sold native children aged 9 or younger into sex slavery. Columbus "gifted" native slave women to his crew to be subjugated. Columbus mutilated natives who were found to have done "crimes". Columbus was so brutal his own fucking monarchy investigated his crimes. Fuck.
Matt Walsh@MattWalshBlog

Christopher Columbus is the ultimate IQ test. You immediately know that someone is a retarded halfwit if they start screeching some nonsense about how Columbus was a genocidal maniac or whatever. Intelligent students of history understand that he is one of the great men of western civilization. This is an awesome move by the White House.

After the commercial disaster of 'Dodes'ka-den' (1970), Akira Kurosawa attempted su!c!de as he was considered "no longer bankable" by the Japanese studios. He agreed to direct 'Dersu Uzala' (1975) in 1971. The movie was entirely financed by the Soviet Union. It is considered to be an important movie in his oeuvre. Three years of filming in the Siberian Tundra left Kurosawa exhausted. The movie was a modest success. After that, without other means of support, Kurosawa was forced to do whisky commercials (for Suntory). Akira Kurosawa's salary for the commercial was $30,000, but more importantly, this venture made his two great admirers in the USA, Francis Ford Coppola & George Lucas aware of his plight. Both of them would help him to finance his next project, 'Kagemusha' (1980).

The second time the IRA almost assassinated the British government. The financial heart of London was targeted repeatedly, major institutions started relocating to Frankfurt. Heathrow airport was shut down for days at a time. The British negotiated the GFA. Cause and effect.

Hollywood portrayed Frida Kahlo as a Trotskyist through Salma Hayek’s role, but her own words in The Diary of Frida Kahlo: An Intimate Self-Portrait (1953) tell a different story: “Today like never before I am not alone. It has been 25 years that I have been a communist. I know the central origins. I know the ancient roots. I’ve read the history of my country and almost all the villages there. I know its conflicts of economics and class. I understand clearly the materialist dialectics of Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin, and Mao Zedong. I love them as the pillars of the new communist world. I realized the error of Trotsky since he arrived in Mexico. I was never a trotskyite. But in that time, 1940, I was only an ally of Diego (personally) (political mistake). But you have to take into account that I’ve been sick since I was six years old and really very little of my life I’ve enjoyed health and I was useless to the Party. Now in 1953 after 22 surgeries I feel better and I can from time to time help my Communist Party. Since I’m not a worker, I am an artisan - and allied unconditionally to the communist revolutionary movement.”

Karl Marx was the first contradiction of his own philosophy. He condemned exploitation while living off Engels’ money for decades and refusing steady work. He preached moral critique of capitalism while fathering a child with his family’s maid, then having Engels claim the child to avoid scandal. The maid was abandoned. The child erased. His wife Jenny endured years of poverty, illness, and instability while he wrote about human liberation. This wasn’t theory failing in practice. It failed at home first. Two of his daughters died by suicide. Eleanor Marx, his closest intellectual ally, killed herself after years of ideological devotion bound up with personal despair. Laura Marx and her husband ended their lives together, framing it as a rational decision before becoming “burdens.” This matters because Marxism didn’t just collapse historically. It collapsed personally. The man who promised emancipation couldn’t sustain a family without charity, couldn’t take responsibility for his own actions, and left behind dependence, denial, and despair.
Karl Marx@marxhaunting

The bourgeois sees his wife as a mere instrument of production. He hears that the instruments of production are to be exploited in common, and, naturally, can come to no other conclusion than that the lot of being common to all will likewise fall to the women.

Stormont’s minister for copy and paste: Liz Kimmins uses stock ‘blame the Brits’ answer 132 times in a year, prompting ludicrous Assembly responses. Almost whatever the question, ‘British austerity’ is the response. This is pathetic, but also revelatory. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/opinion/column…

If only Liz Kimmins had been a fan of the Jackson 5, then maybe once in a while she’d occasionally blame it on the boogie, rather than always blaming it on ‘the Brits’.
