Brief history and future of Colonialism in Kurdistan by Prof. of Sociology Ahmad Mohammadpour:
The colonization of Greater Kurdistan is among the last and longest colonial projects of modern history.
For over a century, Kurdish land and life have been subjected to overlapping racio-linguistic regimes of imperial domination across the Middle East. Arab “Muslim brothers” in Iraq perpetrated the genocide of 182,000 Kurds in Bashur during the Anfal campaign, gassing Halabja and killing 5,000 innocent Kurds just two episodes in a broader machinery of extermination since the imperialist invention of the Iraqi state.
There, Arab Syrian Muslim “brothers” denied for decades the Kurds of schooling, birth registration, property ownership, and even the right to exist. And now, yesterday’s Wanted jihadis and today’s West-approved leader, Al-Jolani, is aboard!
Turkish “Muslim brothers”, who branded 25 million Kurds as “Mountain Turks,” banning the Kurdish language, calling Kurds “tailed beasts,” indulging anti-imperialism and pro-Palestine theater while serving as NATO’s second-largest army, suppressing Kurds and supporting building colonial settlements in the north of Syria, calling Kurds refugees and immigrants on their own land.
And then the Aryan “master race”, a Perso-Shiʿa empire playing multiple games. They loudly fight imperialism abroad but perfecting the art of annihilation of non-Persians at home.
Ah yes. This is the cradle of civilization. So beautiful. So civilized.
We, Kurds, are not taking anyone’s land; we are removing occupiers, reclaiming what is ours. Every inch of our homeland will be liberated from settlers and colonial rule. That day might come late, but it will for sure. In the aftermath of the collapse of Perso-Shia colonialism in Iran, Kurds will not entrust their future to the ballot.
Iran will never become a democratic, secular, or progressive system, just like the Turkish and Arab regimes of suppression. It might at best transition to yet another form of ethnoracial mode of governance. The dominant ethnie will never recognize or even pronounce the right of self-determination for Kurds and other suppressed minoritized nations.
Occupiers do not depart by goodwill. They are made to leave, as the history of colonialism has showcased, and this will also be true in the case of Iranian imperialism. This forged failed imaginary will be over one way or another.
