"Startups don't have a budget for recruiting" is the laziest VC take. Our customers are small pre-seed startups. They pay us because we actually fill the role. Every single recruiting agency they tried before was more expensive and didn't deliver. Budget exists when results do.

Layoffs in big tech are actually the best thing that has ever happened to startup hiring. The relative risk of joining a 4-person startup vs joining @Meta and hoping you're not in the 20% they cut next quarter has completely changed. And even if you survive the layoff, being there while it happens is brutal.

@fordsmith Facts. The ability to write things down and in retrospect see if the decisions were high quality. That is the counterpoint to the need to do to be able to make decisions really quickly.

Decision frequency beats decision quality every single time in a startup. The only thing that matters is how fast you make decisions and whether you have the self-awareness to know when you got it wrong.

@ilyesm @tusharnandy08 Offering close to equal but still asymmetric lets you speedrun having your first difficult conversation and fight much earlier. Even if you end up landing on equal, it means you've stress tested the relationship up front

I catfished my cofounder with an AI agent on @ycombinator's matching platform. My agent found him, wrote a message, and we met for coffee. When I told him the agent wrote the message, not me, he just said "fuck, that's really cool, show me how you built that". I showed him the earliest version of Superposition.ai. Three weeks later we were cofounders. Still the best recruiting case study I have.
