@KevyWeby @yacineMTB My (now adult) kids were in daycare. They took the kids outside, had friends, taught them many things. We had time together every day to continue teaching our values & discuss what they learned. After a few months, they were not strangers anymore. I still keep in touch with them.

@yacineMTB I would never put the care of my child in a stranger's hands. I understand some people don't have a choice. But I would rather they be home where we can instill them with our values, get them outside, and schedule tons of playdates with their friends and cousins.

What the hell is wrong with some of you? If it’s true that tens of millions of men were involved in online spaces where sexual violence against women is discussed, joked about, or normalized, then this is not a “small toxic corner of the internet.” This is a massive, disgusting failure of culture and enforcement. Women are not imagining their fear. They are reacting to a world where harassment is constant, where violence is real, and where too many men either participate, excuse it, or stay silent when they see it. And silence matters. Looking away matters. Laughing it off matters. Every time this behavior is treated like “just online talk,” it gets normalized a little more. But here is the part that still has to be said clearly: this is not all men. It never has been. The problem is the ones doing it, and the systems that let it spread unchecked while everyone else shrugs. If people want trust, if people want respect, then this has to be confronted directly. Not minimized. Not deflected. Not joked away. This kind of behavior doesn’t deserve nuance or excuses. It deserves to be shut down.

@Softnessa_ Why would you run your child to a doctor because she ouked once? A couple days later, sure. 24 hours cures most stomach issues.

School called me to pick up Mini bc she puked in class. I took her to the clinic. Clinic doc started asking about her period and if maybe she’s just nauseous from that. Completely dismisses that she already puked and says school nurses barely know anything. Then he asks her if she’s sure she’s not just faking it to get out of school. He barely finished asking before she projectile vomited all down his front. I went the fk off. Bc this mfer walked in with an attitude problem, dismissed a HIGHLY competent professional that has never steered me wrong with my kid before, and started blaming everything on her period (not due for another week) and attention seeking. Never seen this man before a day in my life. I know what sick people look like. And I know my fking kid. I told him not to come back to the room. I asked the nurse to take down what happened and to see if anyone else was willing to see my daughter. Lady Doc is in the room with us within 10 minutes. Mini has a nasty bug that’s been going around. This will be a talk and lesson later on how to advocate for herself and if all else fails, call Mom. I won’t say all male drs suck. It was a man who listened to me and legit saved my life twice when a woman told me I was being dramatic. But we definitely have this problem more with men than women.

This is absolutely horrid!! You're doing amazing mama. I'm wishing you both the best of luck in getting justice. This is INFURIATING. That is exactly why men end up being heinous as adults. Women raising their boys under the “he would never do that” rather than doing something about their child’s behavior. He’s making victims already and his mother is helping mold him to make more.

@LaysenLand @alyssaleann This is exactly what I did. I felt a little bad about dropping my middle name (my mother's favorite aunt's name), but not THAT bad. I hadn't started working professionally so didn't have licenses or authored papers in my maiden name to worry about.

@alyssaleann 🫂 I took my husband’s name but felt weird about giving “mine” up. I decided to make my maiden name my middle name, and take husband’s last name. I feel good about the choice; I share a last name with my husband and son, so it feels like adding something rather than a loss for me

somewhat seriously re: married last names… I’m happily married and have been since I was 21 years old. I changed my last name, and wish I hadn’t. I don’t regret it enough to undo it, and I do love sharing a name with my husband but I wouldn’t do it again I felt (and still feel, a little bit) that I killed a part of myself when I changed my name. that feels dramatic to say, and it is! I would prefer not to feel this way, but I haven’t been able to shake it the feeling didn’t sink in until a friend sent me a picture of my name engraved on the sidewalk of my university (a tradition for the graduating classes); and that wasn’t my name anymore. Alyssa Mars no longer existed years later, I saw my maiden name on an old paper I wrote and my brain didn’t recognize it as Me for a second; when it finally clicked, I felt genuine sadness names are important, and that’s why we fight about them so much. I don’t think that fighting is useful, and I don’t think there’s a right answer or that our choices are even a particularly good or interesting reflection of our values or affections each couple should be thoughtful about their choice, unburdened by family and societal pressures and honest about what their name means to them

@GrimnirsThegn My older son felt bad that his younger brother didn’t have a lot of reading points yet, so he logged in to his brother’s account and took tests for him on books his brother was not ready to read. Oblivious little bro told us, we told school, big bro had to write apology letters.

In 3rd grade I wanted to read Three Musketeers because it was worth an entire semester of “reading points” and I didn’t want to have to keep picking books off their dumb list of “approved books”. I wanted to read Redwall instead. My teacher put up a huge fuss about how I was going to waste a bunch of time “reading” then fail the comprehension quiz because a 3rd grader could never understand a book that advanced. I got 100% on the quiz so of course she raised my semester threshold of “reading points” to keep me picking books off the list.
memetic_sisyphus@memeticsisyphus

It’s true, every halfway intelligent right winger I know irl had a massive conflict with at least one elementary teacher over things like: reading ahead, reading too difficult books, not showing enough work, etc etc. it’s the first time we experience the uncaring tyranny of state bureaucracy and it sucks.

The neighbor’s Tuxedo Cat has apparently decided that our house is now part of her daily schedule. And not in a casual “just stopping by” way — more like she has a spare key and a standing appointment. Every morning — literally every morning — she trots right in like it’s the most normal thing in the world. No hesitation. No shyness. First stop? The living room. Then she makes this confident little hop onto the couch, lets out a few dramatic meows to place her snack order… and boom — she’s stretched out like that spot has always belonged to her. If we gently suggest, “Um… you don’t actually live here,” she gives us that look. The one that says, “Excuse me? I just got here.” And the best part? Less than five minutes later, she’s back at the door again — freshly fluffed, ready for the next “walk.” Like the first visit was just a warm-up round. At this point, we don’t argue. We just let her run her route. Living room. Couch. Snack inspection. Door supervision. If her stubborn little Tuxedo Cat heart has decided we’re part of her morning routine, who are we to question it? So yes — she’s officially our part-time roommate now: • Shows up uninvited • Pays no rent • Demands snacks with full confidence • Leaves whenever she feels like it And somehow… still gets treated like royalty. 👑🐾
