@NewAgeRetroNerd Knowledge is pure gold. You can get hired easily; you can specialize in any new tech that interest you the most; you can build a solid network. 20 years ago many people dropped my CS school in 2nd year because they could sell websites at 2000$. Today they may be worthless...

People at major AI labs (using internal models) 3-4 months ahead of startup silicon valley engineers SV founders/eng 3-6 months ahead of NY NY founders/eng 6-12 months ahead of rest of world Most people have no idea how fast AI shifting as 1-2 years behind SOTA "The future is here, just not equally distributed" - Robert Heinlein

@CloudlessStudio \is there any problem with Enhanced Input system + common UI ? I have no controller to test yet but controller is set up -> map "actions" ( as gameplay tags )to device, one asset for KB_M, one asset for controller. Then lyra sample have all those little things to make life easy

@NetworksChat no. i like .NET and C# especially since it went cross platform and evolved into what it is today. VB .NET always seemed like a carrot to move VB devs onto .NET and eventually to C#. imo VB6 was a monstrosity that produced slop the likes of which we have not seen until the AI era.

@Srini_Pa Unlimited context goes a long way to solve this. But that requires more of the bottlenecked AI inputs. Bullish

Gartner surveyed 350 executives at $1B+ companies already deploying AI agents and automation. 80% cut jobs tied to AI. No improved ROI. Cutting people freed cash, didn’t create value. AI that cannot learn cannot compound. Architectural failure.

@GaryMarcus Most investors follow trends. Some world record investments in companies were scams. Remember that electric truck company pretending to have created new 100x batteries ? Hype create trends; and today AI is best hype-creating machine: imagine a world fully automated...

@MrChickenRocket Indeed! Right now all agents are individually allocated objects. I could try stuffing structs into an array instead. Overall agent layout should be relatively optimal for cache lines as far as I understand (but I'm still learning that stuff)

Stress-testing 100k agents. FPS dropped to 60. I had to move most of the logic to C++ to make this work. I could only scale to ~10k in GDScript before hitting a wall. Each "agent" is also just a cube here. Nothing complex. My goal is to get this stable at 144hz w/ 100k agents.

@CRUMVIII I usually turn off any distraction; switch to another part; force myself to good habits (at least one line of code / design docs/ sketch / must be written after one hour I woke up; maintain a written log/schedule) Sport (maintain back muscles), r&r every day when possible.

Any game dev that worked a long time on their project but at some point in development, they got stuck in a really bad spot and seemingly couldn't proceed any further for whatever reason? Or it was harming your mental health. If so, what did you do?

@FeanFiltonpair @alightinastorm I'm not asking anyone to manage my triggers I'm literally just asking to be recognized as a human capable of emotion, because I was denied that, right to my face.

saw someone vibe coding at a cafe no voice mode no multi-agent setup no 3-hour extended thinking loops no switching between Codex and Claude Code just typing a prompt, and staring at the screen, waiting for the response like a psychopath

@ThetaForgeCo @rtroar As a 10+ years indie dev, started with almost 0 knowledge in art/composition, I must say Ai is extremely useful but like music, or vibe coding, without a solid foundation you will end up with "slop". It will help you level up very quick, though

@rtroar I leverage AI for the things I'm not good at. I am unapologetic about my usage of AI.. those against it have got it all wrong and eventually will just have to get over it.

I'm convinced the best time to be an indie game dev is now. More tools at your disposal than ever before to create the game of your dreams. Genres and games that weren't available to you before have now completely become possible thanks to the speed of iteration with AI. AAA Game studios have lost the plot.. Indies are the only devs left taking risk and making games that are just fun to play. The golden days are upon us lads. Build that game.

@alightinastorm I literally have a mental disorder that makes it so I clinically cannot help it but be sensitive, feel emotions to an overwhelming degree. You are showing your lack of empathy and understanding for the less fortunate
