Well @philiplord & @chrizmillr supporting Rocky IV gets them another high 5 from me. Literally the best training montage in any film. Hearts on Fire just the chefs kiss.

@RollingStone Super creepy. So they trained a LoRA on Val’s likeness for both image and voice and not on shred of it is how he would have delivered in his talent. Just random juxtaposition insert for a brief sequence in the “film”

An AI version of Val Kilmer stars in new film ‘As Deep as the Grave' • Kilmer was cast in the movie in 2020 — COVID delays stretched production to six years • Kilmer was too sick amid his throat cancer battle to film • His daughter gave permission for the AI version after his death "His family kept saying how important they thought the movie was and that Val really wanted to be a part of this. He really thought it was important story that he wanted his name on ... Despite the fact some people might call it controversial, this is what Val wanted" (via @Variety)

@firagawalkwthme Choices in depth of field both for traditionally capture images and ones destined for a CG/VFX workflow have lots of variables becomes a mix of artistic, technical and aesthetic choices.

@timsoret Nope super creepy approach about artists intent as an actor. They trained a LoRA on his NIL and want to make a splash on his name. SAG I’m sure will have something to say about it.

@imPatrickT @blauereiter @bartonovopolis Layered answer is that you can have many reasons why shots look off and some of them have nothing to do with a comp’d shot. Even in heavy CG/VFX films you have sequences that get much more attention than others in a film. You also have traditional shot scenes that can look off

@bartonovopolis it's a production design issue. deep focus CGI background is ass - and shallow DOF can be used to cover up shotty sets. Grieg Fraser *loves* shallow depth of field but he understands light and space. You can still feel structure in the out of focus areas.

Honestly I’m getting sick of modern movies being constantly shot with a super wide aperture where the background is blurry in every scene. Let us see the background and give the scenes a sense of place.

Remmick's fate in @SinnersMovie was the subject of debate on set, in regards to how it would be set up, blocked and framed. That was until an iPhone photo and a bold idea helped clarify the vision, and from there, the visuals were fleshed out. @IGN So they made a LoRA based on old references(image & voice) with no guide of performance or inflection. Totally defeating the purpose of Val’s talents as an actor just to insert a GEN version of him randomly into a sequence in their film. 🤔 his kids sure got the wool pulled over

@HugoCGuerra Seriously. Sad part his kids being led astray as to how their dad would be represented via a LoRA adaptation that he never even recorded lines or a frame of the film.

FIRST LOOK: Val Kilmer has been resurrected via AI to star in the new movie "As Deep as the Grave." Kilmer was cast in the movie in 2020, five years before his death. But he was too sick amid his throat cancer battle to ever make it to set. Now an AI version of the actor is appearing in the film, with the full blessing of his daughter, Mercedes: "He always looked at emerging technologies with optimism as a tool to expand the possibilities of storytelling. This spirit is something that we are all honoring within this specific film, of which he was an integral part.” “He was the actor I wanted to play this role,” says writer-director Coerte Voorhees. “It was very much designed around him. It drew on his Native American heritage and his ties to and love of the Southwest... His family kept saying how important they thought the movie was and that Val really wanted to be a part of this. He really thought it was important story that he wanted his name on. It was that support that gave me the confidence to say, okay let’s do this. Despite the fact some people might call it controversial, this is what Val wanted.” wp.me/pc8uak-1lH1PI
