True. I once worked on a road projevct in Tanzania funded by the Millenium Challenge Corporation and the contractor was a Danish-Dutch consortium. The "engineers" they brought from both countries were basically street technicians. Most were Dutch washing machine repair men pretending to be engineers and stole everything including parts and fuel and would go AWOL for days. We fired them all. Only one man in the whole project was doing anything. I remember catching one of them stealking fuel and he tried to suggest that he can't have been stealing because he was European. Kicked his butt. The project consumed 1 Million Euro a week with absolutely no progress whatsoever. The most incompetent and corrupt bunch of people imaginable. That 100 km section took years to finish. It went on for another 3 years after we left. The next segment was Chinese built and took less than 14 months to finish everything. However, this is merely incidental to the main issue which is that even when Chinese corporations are used they are still corrupt and pay kickbacks. If anything we caught the Dutch and Danes because fundamentally corruption was accepted as bad not merely as a way of doing business.

Via. Jim Bonnie My take on SGR to Kisumo to Malaba The extension of the SGR from Naivasha to Kisumu to Malaba will be genuinely transformative. It promises to unlock the economic potential of the western corridor in ways that are both structural and far-reaching. It is therefore baffling that this line did not reach Kisumu much earlier, particularly when Uhuru Kenyatta was reportedly advised by his kinsmen at the Ministry of Roads—an admission made publicly—against the extension on the basis of alleged economic non-viability. Awuoro That reasoning is, at best, deeply unconvincing. Isitoshe, it is historically inconsistent: colonial planners deemed a railway to the western region economically sound, yet a narrow, peabrained, tribalised advisory framework in the 21st century reached the opposite conclusion. Such logic has, over time, been deployed as a convenient pretext to marginalise the Luo community from critical life-changing infrastructure development. Politically and intellectually, I'm not on the same page with President William Ruto on many issues, hii mnajua. Lakini, on this particular intervention, due credit is warranted. Upon completion, the project will significantly enhance multimodal connectivity, affording residents of Nyanza, Rift Valley, and Western Kenya the flexibility to choose between road, rail, and air transport. In fact, our Kalenjin kasins—currently enjoying PAWA (hi kasins) will use train for the first time.

@EricKigada @mwambumon @DeejayIrakoze I really don't care about Uganda. I care only about Kenya. We can achieve the same result on the metre gauge. Why not invest in it? By the way it also goes into northern Uganda

@ForensicsKuria @VinceDaoTV Maybe next time the Iranians make a fake video of a fake jet being shot with a fake missile they should include some fake countermeasures.

"Sure, we may have wiped out their air force and established total air superiority, but they damaged one single jet! It's over for the American Empire!" Yeah okay. Firstly, we don't even know if this is the real video. Secondly, you seem to ignore that the jet made it home safely. It ate the missile and kept going. One jet slightly damaged in weeks of operations and dozens of strikes. So yes, the F-35 is still "unkillable" because it literally wasn't killed. But when you're a third worldist desperately seeking for a moment where America got "owned," I guess this is your huge victory. The cope is insane.
Gandalv@Microinteracti1

The F-35 was supposed to be unkillable. That was the whole point. Lockheed Martin spent thirty years and four hundred billion dollars, the most expensive weapons programme in human history, building an aircraft that the enemy simply could not see. Not on radar. Not on infrared. Not on anything. The F-35 was not just a fighter jet. It was a theological statement. America’s way of saying: we have moved beyond the reach of your missiles, your sensors, and your prayers. Iran apparently didn’t get the memo. Somewhere over Iranian airspace on March 19, 2026, an IRST system, infrared search and track, the kind of sensor your grandmother could probably explain, looked up, found the F-35, and locked on. Not because Iranian engineers are geniuses. Because the F-35, it turns out, is extremely hot. All that engine. All that thrust. All that carefully sculpted stealth geometry, and the bloody thing glows like a kettle. The heat signature data Iran now holds is not just embarrassing. It is a gift that keeps giving. To Moscow. To Beijing. To every procurement ministry on the planet that has been quietly wondering whether to spend the money on systems designed to kill this aircraft. The answer, as of this week, is yes. And here is the bit that should really worry the Pentagon. You can patch software. You can redesign coatings. You cannot reprogramme a pilot’s brain. Every F-35 driver who takes off from here on knows, actually knows, that someone down there might be able to see them. That changes everything about how they fly. Caution replaces aggression. Hesitation replaces instinct. Four hundred billion dollars. And in the end, it was done in by a heat sensor. Tremendous. Gandalv / @Microinteracti1

How does that contradict what I have just told you? Uganda does not have funding for the rsilway. It is not building anything. You built a section for Museveni's photo op. You have no loans, no pipeline nothing. All you have is money for bridges from the IsDB which you will convert for rpad usage when you fail to get funding. A larger point is that even if you had this money, the entire project is of nil value to Kenya and should not exist.

@Osama_otero Yes you cannot do a lot of things if the great sin of not marrying formally is not corrected. But more immediately, you cannot bury your wife on your land. Since she is not your wife. Just respect your inlaws enough to go and formalise things.

I deleted my earlier repost of this because it was pointed out to me that Netanyahu was quoting an author, something the accounts reposting this clip fail to mention in an effort to make it appear as though these are Netanyahu’s own words. He’s actually making a good point along the lines of evil prevails when good men do nothing.

This talent bottleneck is everywhere in Kenya where action is needed (as opposed to words). Take Ophthalmic devices. In the whole country there has only been one BME specialising in them. Mathenge retired last year and there is no one now.

Pale ISK kuna 36 engineer surveyors and only 300 land surveyors. Safe to say I have only met one registered land surveyor and I have practised 10 + years. The rest nawaonanga tu kwa stamp. Why is it so hard to register as a surveyor my surveyor buddies?

@ForensicsKuria @EricKigada Seems we are slightly tied at about 45%. We are an import country so is much of our transport corridor. We'd be better off going after the Ugandan market, wasiende th TZ way than trying to force a railway for local production which is nearly dead.

Mr. West, you are totally wrong and in fact your wrongness is across the entire framework. There is nothing you have going for you; no information, epistemic pollution, confusion of propaganda for information, no analytical framework, no experience, no domain knowledge, use of opinion sections of the media as analytical tools, circular logic, cherry picking, laundering of preferences as outcomes, confirmation bias, etc wrapped together with emotional investment in your preferred outcomes. Not to mention bad instincts which is probably worse than the rest. Not just on this issue but everything including domestic Kenyan politics. You just don't have the scaffolding. I can only hope that never in your life will you ever be in a position that is responsible for anyone's life except yours.

Thank you Ian, what most people don’t take into consideration is data, Russia went in knowing they’ll wipe out Kyiv overnight but they found out a resilient country. Today Ukraine is hitting Russian targets and the drone strikes configured. Look at the interception records, that’s where the truth is. Ukraine has outwitted Russia.
