I used to make videos about Magic: the Gathering, I still do, but I used to too. https://t.co/H4woh8UMB9 https://t.co/g3fmolI1t5

My actual fix for the RCQ system would be that invites should pass down. Let qualified players try and win the whole thing and have there be a reason for every round of Magic to be played. This would make people need to play for seeding which would mean no/less IDs.

Do these people know that RCQs are a terrible, flawed system for this exact reason? Collusion happens and whether you’re pissy about it or bored to death by it, it sucks for everyone and this is why RCQs need to end. They are not exactly skill testing
Alex@Almagod73

@wildstwawberry If you attend an event with the sole goal to give one or two players a free ride and to mess up everyone else’s breakers, that’s essentially match fixing. I just saw an rcq where someone only won 3 games in a 5 round then top 8 combined to get an invite. 4 homie scoops in 1 day!

@wildstwawberry Homie scoops is "collusion" but not in the MTR sense of the word, just as politicking in EDH is. I am no doubt in the top 1% of scoopers/scoopees but it's sort of impossible to justify other than "we can and it benefits us so we do"

@CBotelhoMagic Internal testing teams just can't have anywhere near the volume of games that the wider player base has, and with sets coming out faster and faster there's just no time for them to find anything

Y’know, it’s interesting how rarely (never) we hear in regards to problematic metagames: “we expected the player base to do a better job finding decks that beat the top decks, because we found them in internal testing”. Wonder how often it happens but goes unsaid.

@TheTrinketMage Built it with this as the secret partner commander. My goal is to take EVERYTHING then give it all back and draw half my deck.

@ShitpostRock So like, isn't the issue that the horses are raced and constantly risk life-threatening injury for human sport? I don't think the point of PETAs campaign is "we should race horses but when they get hurt we should just let them be in agony"

@BreithauptJake @CBotelhoMagic It's garbo in Pioneer and would never be played in a Bracket 4 or 5 commander deck. Power levels below that, sure, but at that point you're purposefully playing bad cards so the criticism still holds true.

@CBotelhoMagic I mean, context matters. In Standard? Yeah, this isn't very good. In, say, an build focused on enchantments for other formats like Pioneer or Commander? It's adequate.

Enchantment-based removal card design is the part of magic that most consistently confuses me. They always seem costed as if being a removable liability that flickers your opponents’ stuff for them is somehow not a downside? Would love to see one of these with, like, ward 2.

@HanweirGarrison @RyanFreeburger Is that change pictured here? It looks like it still references "if its impending cost was paid" throughout in that screenshot

@RyanFreeburger New CR is out, and the change to impending makes it worded like many other copy effects, instead of having the rider “if it was cast for its impending cost” which was the reason it would have made spell copies be creatures instead

@Jenn_the_Judge There is no functional difference. You are relying on a confession or on someone making a judgement call. Intent is impossible to know outside of a confession of guilt. Intent is effectively pointless.

Cheating requires intent. You can't call everything you dislike cheating. Magic has policy; it's not perfect and you may disagree with it but professional magic is still governed by it. If you break a game rule but do not meet the requirements for cheating, it's not cheating.

@NCultum @Flilu808 @gearniing Did you make sure to look at the screen while watching? They show the hexgates being used right up until the battle scene starts to demonstrate this exact thing

@Flilu808 @gearniing My attempt to make sense of that is that they took advantage of the Hexgate until the last minute to evacuate people... otherwise I have no idea.

@d_feldman ChatGPT always gonna agree with the user. The only solution here is for him to also use ChatGPT. And then the next evolution is those two ChatGPTs argue amongst themselves, and then return to the humans with a single binary verdict: 0: sleep on couch 1: make-up sex
