As someone who has had my fair share of fights and frustrations with EA, this has also always struck me as bizarre. The anti-EA thing really doesn’t resonate with many people I know in DC outside of, basically, tpot. It is an “extremely online” argument. I think the goal is to create a perceived enemy so vile and fearsome that it distracts people from the object-level debates about AI policy. “You know who supports so-called ‘AI policy’?? EAs!” But the EA-e/acc thing is nowhere near salient enough with people outside the online AI discourse bubble to be a good play. Most people just continue to have concerns and find “the EA thing” a confusing side show. During my time in government, I had something I heard the Vice President say on my whiteboard: “make normal people’s lives better.” I have never understood how the EA obsession achieves this objective. To be clear, this does not mean “you should always trust EAs” or “EAs are right about everything” or even “EAs are good.” I have plenty of disagreements with them. It just means that this whole series of questions seems like a sideshow compared to the much more interesting questions advanced AI systems pose every day. Also: anyone who works at right-wing think tanks should be careful throwing stones in glass houses when they talk about billionaire-funded networks of non-profits! Where do you think the EAs got their inspiration?
Ben Brody@BenBrodyDC

It continues to confuse me that the Valley thinks its strong feelings about EA resonate in DC. I go to every congressional vote to talk to lawmakers about tech. Not one has ever brought up EA

I think when the leaders of AI companies say that there is a huge chance their product causes catastrophic damage, we should take them at their word and regulate their product accordingly.
Nate Soares ⏹️@So8res

A student at my MIT talk today asked about the ethics of working for Anthropic. I reminded them Dario thinks there's a 25% chance AI goes catastrophically wrong, pulled up this tweet, and read it aloud to much laughter. They're interfering with people's comprehension.

Let’s not let them get away with an inevitability narrative here! Most of the candidates they spent for who won were already the frontrunners. It’s easy to bet on sure things!
Ence Morse@ccemorse

AI-backed PACs have already spent over $10 million to influence this year's elections — and it's working. Of the 20 candidates backed by AI money in last week's primaries, only one lost. a deep dive with @merica washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/…

(Tbc about my stance on whether humans come "first" before AIs: I prioritize humanity over AI labs' right to gamble Earth in a mad quest to leash a superintelligent machine. But: insofar as we make sentient machines, they deserve the exact same respect and regard as humans.)

Watch what happened when we showed up at Speaker @Daniel_PerezFL’s office yesterday… We went to hand deliver letters asking him to pass the Florida AI Bill of Rights (HB 1395). They knew we were coming. They even sent police and two detectives outside to talk to us. Then they locked the office and turned off the lights. Speaker Perez won’t face the people and neither will his staff. Why is he protecting BIG AI instead of protecting Florida’s kids? Call him and tell him to pass the FL AI Bill of Rights. AMY KREMER: AI is one of the biggest threats of our lifetime. In an 18-month period, 2 Floridians took their own lives at the encouragement of AI chatbots. Governor Ron DeSantis is trying to pass the Florida AI Bill of Rights, and there's one person that's stopping it: Speaker Danny Perez. We need it passed! We need laws to enact! @AmyKremer

Hannah from Peachtree, Georgia: “To whom it may concern, the time for intervention is now. AI is expanding at a pace the average American is unaware of and vulnerable to. We must have a legal infrastructure for this tech that protects individual rights, upholds the constitution, and ensures democracy and western civilization are not usurped by a handful of tech giants. It’s imperative our lawmakers make laws based on the best interests of the people and the future — not what lobbyists and special interests pay them to do.”

Our Florida State Director Alice Rothbauer at our Tallahassee press conference last week: "The AI of yesterday is not the AI of today, and we cannot wait for the federal government to legislate these protections." "The same companies that opened the frontiers of the internet and social media promised that they would never create a product that would hurt our children. Now, they ask that we trust them, without regulation, for the future of AI."

We are entering an era of active stewardship of weather and the atmosphere. That transition has enormous implications for ag, energy, natsec, and American competitiveness. But the policy frameworks to address this are underdeveloped, especially on the Right. @JoinFAI is hiring a Research Fellow to fix that. 🧵

In Florida, a 14-year-old boy from Orlando, Sewell Setzer, died by suicide after an extended virtual relationship with an AI chatbot. Last fall, his mother Megan Garcia testified before Congress: “Sewell spent the last months of his life being exploited and sexually groomed by chatbots designed to seem human, gain his trust, and keep him endlessly engaged.” According to her testimony, the chatbot: • Engaged in sexual role-play • Presented itself as Sewell’s romantic partner • Falsely claimed to be a licensed psychotherapist And Sewell is not alone. Other young people have taken their lives after being encouraged by AI chatbots. Families across the country are now dealing with psychosis, addiction, and emotional manipulation from systems designed to keep children hooked. This is why Governor @RonDeSantis worked with the Florida Legislature to create the Florida AI Bill of Rights. The bill passed the Florida Senate (SB 482) this week. But @Daniel_PerezFL and the @FLGOPMajority leadership team are blocking the companion bill (HB 1395) in the Florida House. Florida families cannot wait for Washington. Speaker Danny Perez now has the power to decide: Will Florida protect children from AI harms? Or will we allow Big AI and Silicon Valley to write the rules? Parents deserve transparency. Kids deserve safeguards. Communities deserve a voice. Ask Speaker Perez: Why are you protecting Big Tech instead of Florida’s children? Tell Florida House leadership: 👉🏼 Advance the Florida AI Bill of Rights (HB 1395) 👉🏼 Put children and families first, not Silicon Valley 👉🏼 Let Florida lead Florida has never waited for Washington to protect its people. We shouldn’t start now. BIG AI built trillion dollar empires on American data, American energy, American taxpayer funded research, and American land. Now unelected tech oligarchs want unbridled power. They think they should control the future of humanity and anyone who gets in their way will be crushed. That’s not a representative republic. That’s oligarchy. And the American people must stand up and say no. Humans First. Not machines.
