@karatalaamalaka Minor nit: Cheti Chand -- Signifiying the beginning of the year, with the month of Chet (Chaitra). Fun story, two of my great grandmothers met on the train from Sindh to the newly partitioned India, and then met again at my parents' wedding, about 40 years later.

Met a Sindhi guy who was a baby when his family fled to India during partition. He said one of their main festivals Cheri Chand (coincides with Ugadi) celebrates a form of Varuna called Jhulelal Though I had Sindhi friends growing up in Bengaluru, I didn’t know this.

@pulkitbe That's true :D And if it was going to make a mistake, I would prefer it picked something that I listen to (and I do listen to quite a bit of Metallica).

@GauravML Bro, for folks of our generation, Enter Sandman is Indian spiritual music :-) Maybe the recommendations just got too good and met at a subliminal plane of parent and child ;-)

Google Home's voice recognition needs to improve a bit. My parents wanted to listen to some Indian spiritual music, and Google Home ended up playing Enter Sandman. Not kidding.

@vpj Just uploaded the PDF in my case, and ask it questions as I go through the paper. NotebookLM and LearnLM might also be relevant.

@GauravML Do you upload the pdf and ask questions in chat? Or is there a unique interface for this?

It is such a joy to co-read dense papers with Gemini! Jumping to random points, recapping something defined several sections earlier / if a particular idea was tried in prior work / getting a quick refresher on a topic that I have either not learnt or have foggy memory of, etc.

@pulkitbe @airindia Yeah, my parents had the same impression w.r.t. it being owned by Tata. It's just sad that travel from India is so hard currently with multiple airspace bans, wars, and grossly incompetent airlines.

@GauravML @airindia Thanks. Yeah, it's just a nightmare with them. At this point I just avoid them regardless of price, unless it's an emergency. Sad, I was hopeful Tata would turn them around.

@airindia You bumped off my senior citizen parents from the flight AI-173 a few hours before departure, with no other flights available for a week, even though we booked 2 months in advance and checked-in in time. This is extremely disrupting. Please help fix this mess ASAP!

@pulkitbe @_arohan_ We used to eke out the most out of the limited computer time back in those days :) Also what an engineering marvel, given that it was originally written in assembly and worked with barely any RAM and on Pentium I and its predecessors.

@GauravML @_arohan_ it's the first computer game I played. My dad was working in Russia, I went to visit him and his colleague took me to his computer to play for a bit (this was maybe in 1994/95, I was 7-8). Years later I played and completed it when I was much older and had a computer :)

@airindia cc @DGCAIndia Air India is going to the extreme in overbooking tickets, choosing to cancel tickets at the last minute for travelers who booked months prior to travel. Seems like this is their new recurring pattern.

@pulkitbe @airindia Wow, I can imagine your frustration. We had minimal expectations from them, and only picked them since they are the only non-stop option from Delhi currently. They are probably heavily overbooking these days and prioritizing those with higher tariffs.

@GauravML @airindia Sorry to hear man, shit airline. They cancelled last minute for me last year when flying to meet my sister giving birth. Horrible process for refund, it's astonishing to me that they're actually a real company.

I'd like to thank @daniel_rossett for his help in my recovery from the POTS version of Long COVID. Daniel was key in bringing me back from highly disabled and suffering to being able to do what I want to again. This X account is mostly focused on ML / AI. From that point of view, many of you know that in December 2024, I wasn't able to do the test of time award talk at NeurIPS, even by video call. Daniel started working with me in March 2025. By April, I started to have days of no POTS symptoms, by June I was off all heart rate lowering medications, by September I was back to work. I'm back to full exercise, running, lifting weights, mountain biking, and have even done things I hadn't done before I got sick, like riding Whistler Mountain Bike Park. I'm now getting the word out to help Daniel build a company that will bring this approach to more people.

@chhaviyadav_ Has happened to us in AISTATS. The LLM even made up relevant work that we should have cited, and the reviewer didn't bother fixing that either.

Nvidia played a 30+ yr game but not enough has been written about the 10+ yr game Google has played with TPUs. I still remember the 2016 Google i/o when it was launched. The internal funding for it was basically cobbled together from other failed projects that had leftover $s, and the core TPU team ran hard for 15mos from concept to tapeout which is incredibly fast. Even the core reason why TPUs were built in the first place was interesting - to support voice-first use cases on Android e.g. maps. Google was building for a voice first world a long time ago. My view on specialized ASICs remains the same: I think general purpose intelligence needs general purpose compute. But ASICs will continue to play a critical role in everything else specialized.

@asc89 Regardless of how Sundar was at his job at any point of time, the CEO of Perplexity is an absolutely terrible choice for any company, not just Google. He is a troll, and nothing more.

@jsensarma Only way to out-perform DPS-RKP kids is to forget that they go to RKP.

So many stories about DPS RKP. True story - in high school - all my best buddies left town to study in RKP. Everytime they would visit back home - would psyche me out. I felt complete loser, studied 10x harder, ended with better JEE rank than anyone from RKP that batch 😆.
