Many software engineering teams don't have time to do it right. But surprisingly, they have time to do it twice.

@311DCgov @DCDPW @311DCgov Related - is there any point to commenting after closure? I left a note in the first about the mistake and it seems to have done, nothing. @DCDPW

@311DCgov Twice now your teams have marked my yard waste as "not wrapped" for pickup when it is. TWICE I've noted it's wrapped in twine in a bundle. TWICE they drove by in a truck without getting out to check and marked it done. Does it need to be wrapped in orange duct tape?

Seeing 'DEI' as a nice-to-have instead of as a necessary business function is very telling when business conditions are less than optimal. During a recession, notice how many companies are going to toss out their commitment to DEI vs. the ones who are recommitting.

More than one mass shooting a day on average. $800,000,000,000/year military budget. No universal healthcare. This is not a healthy nation.

You should be angry. You should be angry if you’re a women, you should be angry if you’re a man, you should be angry if you’re a human. This is a human rights issue. What are we even fighting for anymore.

Accessibility is not just about the end result, but about the experience. If I can get it done, but it’s 10X more frustrating and takes 10X longer for me as a blind user, it’s not truly accessible. Ultimately, #a11y is about equity of opportunity as well as experience.

@bwennuh Combined with the CaBi that just got dumped next door and our possum drama - I'm not looking forward to this week. Bad vibes.

@a11yMel We've considered opening this discussion as we kick off a design system, but we are super concerned about push back as historically, our teams "hate" links that are underlined text because they are "ugly" 🤦🏻

Is it a losing battle to insist that links and buttons are styled like the thing they are?

If I can offer an observation, 20+ years into my software career: Long term, your kindness and helpfulness are vastly more impactful than your technical skills. People will remember how you made them feel. They're much less likely to remember that awesome function you wrote.

In Germany, teaching the Holocaust is mandatory. It includes visits to concentration camp, museums, etc. They don’t shy away from their own ugly history. Yet the kids aren’t damaged; they’re strengthened, matured, humbled. US needs to do same re slavery. Not that complicated.

@aardrian We logged 2 tickets direct with them, but I haven't tracked their Github for the reasons you noted about their behind-the-scenes funnel. As a paid org for them, we can see the pipeline which are those items in the queue, but that's it. No insight into timeline or priority.

Because ag-Grid’s GitHub issues are all shunted to ZenDesk for only paying customers, I have little insight into if or how general accessibility bugs have been addressed since I logged three in 2020 (2½ years to fail to fix one): #ugh-Grid" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">adrianroselli.com/2020/07/aria-g… Is it any better today?
