Too many are too polite to say this. But mass ritual prayer in public places is an act of domination. The adhan - which declares there is no god but allah and Muhammad is his messenger - is, when called in a public place, a declaration of domination. Perform these rituals in mosques if you wish. But they are not welcome in our public places and shared institutions. And given their explicit repudiation of Christianity they certainly do not belong in our churches and cathedrals. I am not suggesting everybody at Trafalgar Square last night is an Islamist. But the domination of public places is straight from the Islamist playbook. Trafalgar Square belongs to all of us. It is a national memorial to our independence and our salvation. Last night was not like a televised football match or a St Patrick’s Day celebration. It was an act of domination and therefore division. It shouldn’t happen again.

@DAaronovitch @NJ_Timothy @Iromg Christian worship is an expression of joy, gratitude and thanksgiving to God for his goodness and grace. It draws attention to and exalts Christ. It is based on love, reconciliation and forgiveness. It invites others to join in.

@DAaronovitch @NJ_Timothy @Iromg We are a Christian country with a Christian heritage is why. I don't often make comment on here but you are so utterly naive as to where this is going it is terrifying.

@DAaronovitch @NJ_Timothy @Iromg Would it be acceptable to pray openly and for Christian’s to declare our Lord the one and only true god in a predominantly Muslim country? It would be inappropriate there and it’s inappropriate here.

@DAaronovitch @NJ_Timothy @Iromg Obviously not, because despite the fervent efforts of Godless progressives like yourself, we are not a secular society. Christianity is still our national religion, while Islam is a medieval ideology and a hostile political force.

@NJ_Timothy The reality is, we've successfully created a secular nation in which everyone is free to practice their belief. You psychopaths have ruined it by stoking division and hate. This is a You problem.
