I think the reason that Halo fans hated on Halo 4's story is because they couldn't handle anything with more depth than a shallow pond. "WhAt aBouT HaLO Two!?" They hated that back then too lol (and that's why every character from Halo 2 lost 85% of their braincells in Halo 3)

Dragging him down to a human level is just aura-loss, and removes that transcendent, super-human quality.

It's very funny to look back at the discourse over Halo's art style and sound effects to see people complaining about how 343 changed the appearance and sound of so many things when Bungie did all of that in Reach and even wrote over their own canon as well.
