What’s really the point of being in all four competitions if you’re not going to win any of them or at least put in strong performances? Earlier in the season, fans from other clubs were laughing at Manchester United for getting knocked out early in the EFL Cup and FA Cup, especially Chelsea fans, talking about competing in four competitions: the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and EFL Cup. Fast forward to now, Chelsea are struggling to secure a Champions League spot and are already out of the EFL Cup, leaving them with just the league and the FA Cup. So it raises a fair question, what’s the real difference between going far in multiple competitions without success and going out early but stabilising your season? Yes, progressing further brings in more revenue, but at the end of the day, if there are no trophies to show for it, it doesn’t mean much. Meanwhile, we’ve had the chance to refocus, improve, and push for a top-four finish, which also guarantees UEFA Champions League football and the financial boost that comes with it. Going out early was embarrassing, no doubt, but in a way, it forced a reset. And realistically speaking, if it increases our chances of finishing strong and getting back into the Champions League, then it might end up being a blessing in disguise.
