The HS2 trolls come out to claim HS2 is Green. Not one of them has ever come up with a justification for designing a railway for 250mph. It's the major factor why it is so expensive & so destructive. The carbon deficit of its construction & width needed is greater than a motorway

Can #HS2 opponents please RT this and show it to anyone who still argues for it?

Wow. On Tuesday 107 MPs met frontline sewage campaigners, including those featured in Channel 4’s 'Dirty Business', to hear directly about their experience and what needs to change. Campaigners, including prominent figures like @Feargal_Sharkey, had one clear message: it’s time for public ownership.

@MATatBucks I can't believe you could have come close to the true cost or could imagine the whole mess HS2 has turned into. There were many obvious problems but it has far exceeded my expectations.

HS2 has already cost £40 billion, and it’s still unfinished. It was originally priced at £37 billion. Now projected to exceed £100bn. And then there’s this: A one kilometre “bat tunnel” costing up to £216 million to protect a few hundred bats. At one point: • £100 million for the tunnel • £73 milliom for the railway beneath it Britain is now building one of the most expensive railways on earth costing £1 billion per mile on average with no clear final cost. This is not a mega project, it's a mega waste of tax payer money.

@BenGrahamUK HS2 made no sense even when it actually went somewhere. Now all it does is run alongside existing tracks from Birmingham to London. It’s the train equivalent of the M6 Toll Road. It’ll probably price itself out of the market in the same way too.

@BenGrahamUK How can you say that connecting the biggest city and the 3rd biggest city with a 50minute train ride is bad I get that it’s overpriced. But it’s necessary to grow as a country

@Oberon48 @BenGrahamUK The 1980s M40 to Oxford was the last motorway of any significance. HS2 was designed for a pointless speed & is the most expensive way by far of reducing journey times & increasing capacity. It will stand as a folly to a deluded engineer & politicians taken in by lobbyists.

@BenGrahamUK Would you have us build no modern infrastructure? If this was a new motorway I doubt if you would utter a word

@BenGrahamUK The bat tunnel was unnecessary. The existing line that was there did not need one & faster trains could have used it. HS2 decided to build another one next to it & fell a load of trees in the process.

🌞 Tremendous news 🌙 The Department for Transport (DfT) has revoked the #Stonehenge development consent order (DCO) for a tunnel, two junctions and a northern bypass, saying it was doing so under “exceptional circumstances”. theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/m…

I have some ideas how to do that: 1. Only buy level boarding trains. This will save millions. 2. Don’t send mobile roving teams to staffed stations. Every railway staff member must provide assistance. Period. 3. Stop window dressing projects. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

@ChimeWhistle A couple of friends have said DfT has asked TOCs to make £800m in savings collectively. They dont have many ways to save costs beyond staff.
