Texas public education has gone off the rails after years under the leadership of TEA Commissioner Mike Morath. The sight of students being allowed to leave campuses en masse, escorted by ISD police, highlights a systemic failure within the public school system. Texas’ largest school districts have effectively been taken over by the political left and have operated outside the bounds of state law without facing consequences. While Governor Abbott has called on Morath to investigate Austin ISD after hundreds of students were seen leaving school and walking miles to protest during instructional hours, there is little reason to believe meaningful change will occur without new leadership at the very top of the Texas education system. Even a brief review of social media shows similar walkouts across @FortWorthISD , @WacoISD , @AustinISD , schools in the San Antonio area, @ConroeISD, and others—some reportedly involving staff participation.

The Republicans lost a BIG race in #txlege last evening in Tarrant County, and what no one wants to say outloud it they lost because of their attacks on Public Education. The PARENTS in the Suburban Republican District #SD9, which has been held by a Republican since before the 1990s, and a district Trump won by 17 points. This time, they showed up and voted for the Democrat because they LOVE their public schools and want to keep them. Democrat - Rehmet 57% Republican -- Wambasganss 43% The Republicans spent around $2.4 million dollars on Wambasganss and the Democrats spent just under $400,000. "Wambsganss is the chief communications officer for Patriot Mobile, a cell phone company that helped back the conservative school board candidates. That role helped court her support from top state elected officials but could present lines of criticism from parents who feel socially conservatives have gone too far. Wambsganss’ campaign did not return an interview request." -Texas Tribune
