Back in university, my roommate once invited his girlfriend over. Normally, whenever anyone brought their girlfriend, we would give them space. But one day, one of my roommate—the one everyone saw as “too religious”—invited his girlfriend without informing us. We just saw a tall, dark lady walk into the room with him. They both sat on his bed. Clearly, he expected us to leave, but nobody moved. Everyone just stayed, acting unconcerned. He kept chatting with her for about an hour, and still, nobody left. Eventually, he stood up, called one of our roommates outside, and told him to come and talk to us. The guy came back in and started giving us signals to leave, but we ignored him. After another 30 minutes, the guy became visibly restless. The lady noticed something was off. She stood up, hissed, and walked out. Immediately, we burst into laughter. He looked at us with a frown, sighed deeply, and then ran after her.

Everybody likes to talk from the outside until you enter the road. I’m a keke rider myself, and with experience… no, it’s not that easy. This idea of “buy keke ₦5M, make ₦200k daily” sounds sweet online, but reality on ground is very different. I work interstate between Lagos and Ogun (can’t mention exact location for security reasons), so let me break it down small: In Lagos alone: Main ticket: ₦1,300 Money for markers, chairman, security, etc: about ₦1,000 Police/agency money (LASTMA, LNSC, etc): varies, but you must settle or risk paying ₦2k–₦10k for “offence” That’s already money gone before you even start breathing. Now Ogun side: Main ticket: ₦1,700 (₦1,300 weekends) “King of boys”: ₦200 Other random levies: ₦500 Then fuel: ₦12,000 daily at least Passengers? They’ll still price you like fuel is ₦200 per litre. We haven’t even talked about: Repairs (very frequent and expensive now) Feeding and daily survival Weekly hire purchase: ₦60k–₦70k for almost 2 years And let me add this: once a new keke hits 6 months, problems start coming one by one. So when everything is deducted… what exactly is left? This job is not “wake up and print money.” It’s survival, patience, and constant expenses. So no — if someone is still broke, it’s not always laziness or chasing job titles. Sometimes, it’s because the system itself is designed to drain you before you even grow. Respect people on the road. The hustle is deeper than it looks.

Lol, Dude was doing so well. We met through his cousin and decided to work things out. One day, guy man took me to his newly built duplex in Asaba. He just completed the house and thought to take me there. Immediately we got his house, he hurriedly entered kitchen and offered me a glass of water. I told him that I wasn’t thirsty, he replied that I shouldn’t reject anything he offers me but I insisted that I wasn’t thirsty. The senior sister screamed from her end that it’s a taboo to reject water in their place but I still insisted I wasn’t thirsty. He angrily returned the water and his attitude towards me changed. After we left his house, he stopped calling and whenever I call, he doesn't pick. That was how they cancelled the marriage because I simply didn’t take the water they offered me. Lemme make open confession. The reason I turned down the water was because he offered me water in an open glass cup. So many things ran through my mind like what if he added something inside the water. If he had given me bottle water, maybe I wouldn’t have turned it down. Should I blame it on nollywood 🌚 Was I wrong by turning down the water? Or maybe it was God's way of cancelling the wedding 😏

Let me tell you why places like this cannot be developed even if you have the money to do so - The villagers and community leaders will not let you - The villagers and community leaders will drain you and threaten to attack your business every week - The villagers and community leaders will use your business as salary - You will get robbed every week - There are no roads in and out that are good In summary The Lagos coastline is what it is today because for some reasons, they welcome people and leave them there to do business You will never see that in any south south state. I am from a coastline village. BUA is trying to build a refinery in my place, but the villagers have frustrated the hell out of him that he shut down the project many times and was to leave Dangote built a refinery in Lagos and the process was smooth Other parts of Nigeria need to look inwards. Most investments and growth goes to Lagos because it is conducive
